hope everyone has a wonderful day and weekend.
best wishes,

i had been wondering exactly that a few months ago. i had a girdle band sensation around the left half to quarter of my ribs for 6 weeks. not painful though.
i have come up negative to everything, and my neuro can't say what might have caused it.
good luck to you in finding a cause for yours.
lulu--so interesting about the breathing methods too!! i used to do ballet growing up and only breath in that horizantal way...interesting for sure!

One exercise tip my accupuncturist gave me for dealing with the hug is that we should practice breathing horizontally.
Normally when we breathe it is an up and down movement filling our lungs. He says to also breathe so our rib cage expands left to right and stretches those ligaments and muscles. When I am feeling a touch of that tightness I do that to release the tension.
Another thought on mimic causes is Pleurisy - if you have had that you know how painful it is and the discomfort when you breathe. There is pain with pleurisy when you breathe in or out, but not in between.
just some thoughts,
Lulu
I have GERD & have had my gallbladder removed. I started having the hug in February of this year & thought I was having a heart attack the first time! Since I've read a lot & found out that what I was experiencing is described exactly as the hug! I've had it happen four times since. It hurts! I try to deep breathe & that helped. I almost panic when it happens.

Esophageal spasm and GERD too!
For a while I thought I had GERD, setting off esophageal spasm. Turned out it was the hug.
I don't know of MS mimics that cause the hug feeling, but there are lots of other conditions that don't mimic MS in general that can cause this.
For instance, costrochondritis (inflammation of rib tissue), gastro problems, heart problems, muscle pulls and lung issues. Probably a lot more.
