New doctor?

I saw this neuro for the first time in August of 2012 with burning in both ankles, top of feet, and legs.  He said I do not have MS based on neuro exam and the symptoms miraculously went away.  Fast forward to August and Sept of 2013 and the same thing is happening. I went back to him and he did the typical in-office neuro exam and said everything was fine.  But to make me feel better, he ordered MRI of brain w/wo contrast with MS protocol.  SIDE NOTE* I have been followed with open MRI's for the last 10 years to keep an eye on a benign meningioma.  I have had a total of 4 MRI's counting the one last week.  He called and said we could take MS off the table.  How is that possible without checking the spine?  My symptoms of burning ankles and feet have not gone away!

Good luck tomorrow! I think the MS protocol means using the contrast dye.

Claustrophobia and MRI is a nasty mix. Can they prescribe something to sedate you?

You shouldn't have to ask for an MRI so you doc isn't reallydoing you any favours in my opinion. He should be doing anything and everything to help you.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow,

Corrie

Thanks for the comments.  He was actually doing me a favor by doing the brain MRI in the first place.  I'm going tomorrow to see a new ms specialist so I'll see what he says.  I wanted the open because I'm extremely claustrophobic.  I'll take the blame for that one!  He did do an MS protocol...don't really know what that entails.

Hi! It sounds to me like it is time for another neuro. Based on your symptoms, a spinal MRI makes sense and with some people, that is the spot where they have lesions and nowhere else.

If your current neuro is unwilling to refer you for a second opinion, then please find one. It still may not be MS but there is no reason not to check everything out.

Is there an optiin to get the newest MRI to include C spine?

Also, my understanding of open MRI is that lesions can be missed and a closed one will offer better results.

Good luck and keep us posted,

Corrie
