Numb Scalp

by JoeHitchings, Nov 08, 2007 07:14PM
I hope that I do not have MS. But I am calling my dr tomorrow. Two days ago I woke up with a four square inch area on my scalp, near my crown, that is completely numb. It feels like it has had novacaine injected into it. No tingling, but no sensation, either. Now I find that I am stumbling over words. I am not sure about that one-- now that I have MS in my mind, I am looking for other symptoms.

I've heard a lot about tingling or numbness in extremeties. Has anyone ever heard about scalp numbness as an early sign of MS?  Friends think I just have a painlessly pinched nerve (I'm hoping).

Thank you!

Welcome to our little virtual family! You will find help here. I personally cannot really answer your question, but I can tell you that I have strange sensations on my scalp - wet spots, tingly spots, pressure spots. I do not have a diagnosis, so that is not very helpful to you, I know, except to know you're not alone.

Hang in there. Help will be along soon.

Don't jump to conclusions.  There are tons of things that can cause that numbness.  I have had a numb patch on my calf for a year and a half now, and was just talking to a friend of mine who said he has a numb patch on his back.  We can really freak ourselves out when we read about all of the symptoms of something like MS.  It is good to see your doctor - if you are not required by insurance to be "referred", I would see a neurologist for this sort of thing.  Chances are, you're fine.

Thank you. I have been trying to be calm about it. I haven't told many people about this--- I am afraid to worry them. Thank you for any input.
