Numbness in my left side.

Hello,

I had numbness in almost both side of my body about 3 years ago. My doctor offered me AVONEX for that and I used AVONEX for almost 1 year. But about 6 months back, I felt some slight disability on my left side. I cannot move my left leg properly after about 15 minutes walk now. I don't now it is again symptom for MS or not. Is there any body here to help me. I really appreciate any answer. BTW, I am right handed.

Bests,
Esmaeel

Surely you've heard of CIS, Sarah ;)

Esmaeel: Please go to a doctor and tell him/her what you have told us. You deserve help, and the new problems you are having might be due to MS. No one here can tell you why you are having these problems with your left side, but a doctor can run more testing (probably including a new MRI) to try to find out. I hope you'll reach out to a professional to get the help you need.

Best,
Jane

No offense but holey cr@p! I dont know what kind of dr that was but please please go and get a second opinion, preferably with a neurologist that specialises in MS. I suspect the dr you saw wouldn't know his @$$ from his elbow lol sorry that may sound a tad crude but my mind is totally boggled by your story.

Avonex is a disease modifiying drug for MS, as far as i'm aware there are zero other conditions that Avonex would or could be used for, it is not a cure for anything but if you do have MS, it would of helped but as i said not cured. It may be a good idea for you to have a read through our health pages, found just to the right of your screen. Lesions are like real estate, location, location, location, the number is not as important as where they are.

Have a read through, i'm sure you'll end up with questions that we'll be happy to answer as best we can, it just may explain things a little more about RRMS, diagnosing MS. sx of MS etc that you didn't know before.

Welcome to our corner of the web!

Cheers........JJ

Thank you  for your reply. I did MRI and I had some  lesions in both side of my mind. I asked my doctor that is my illness MS and he told me it is not. But he offered me AVONEX and after one year all symptoms were gone and he did stop my AVONEX therapy. From that moment till now I had some times some special feeling in my legs but from 6 months back I feel slight disability in my left leg. The thing is, my right side is totally normal but I have problem with my left side. BTW, I think, if I am right, the number of  lesions in my mind was between 6 and 8. I don't remember exact number. Again thank you for your time.

Welcome to our forum, Esmaeel. I'm glad you found us. Am I understanding correctly that you have discontinued using Avonex for now? If so, why did you stop? Are you currently under the care of a physician?

It is important that you talk to a doctor about your increased disability. There may be many different options to help you regain use of your leg (medicines, devices, and therapy). If you are diagnosed with MS, you may need to consider using Avonex or some other disease modifying medicine long term. Your doctor should discuss this with you.

I wish you the best and hope you'll share more of your story.

you didn't give us a whole lot of medical history, so will probably fire more questions at you than you want!  MS "usually" hits one side or the other at first, although there are exceptions.

Did you have any tests done to prove MS when the Avonex was prescribed?
MRI, CT, LP, blood tests to rule out mimic diseases?

As you may know Avonex will not cure MS, it, like the other DMD drugs, is to "help prevent" future lesions from occurring.  There are % as to how well the drugs work and they are, like someone on the forum said "like buying insurance, a good investment".

Have any CTs been done to rule out pinched nerves, things like that?

Good luck and keep us posted, am sure you are going to consult with your doctor, right?
