PHYSIATRIST APPT

CRAIG WENT TO THE PHYSIATRIST TODAY.  HE WAS VERY NICE.  QUITE PROFESSIONAL.  HE GAVE CRAIG MUSCLE RELAXANTS  (ZANAFLEX)  AND A PRESCRIPTION FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY .

UNLIKE THE PREVIOUS THERAPY CENTERS THAT JUST TOLD CRAIG TO LIFT HIS LEG TEN TIMES, THIS IS A CENTER WHERE THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES.  THEY ALSO WORK WITH THE PHYSIATRIST AND KEEP IN CONTACT WITH HIM.

HE SAID THAT ONE OF CRAIG'S FEET DOES NOT LIFT WHEN HE WALKS.  HE MENTIONED ORTHOTICS FOR 'DOWN THE ROAD'.

HE SAID THAT WHAT PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEURO DISEASES NEED IS "MUSCLE RE-EDUCATION".  THAT SOUNDS GOOD TO ME!!

This doctor is not overly muscular, but very well dressed and attentive.  He is from California and went to med school there.  I like that because so many of our doctors are born and raised in DE and all go to school at Jefferson Univ. because they have a tuition deal with DE residents, per a state program.  DE has no medical school in the state.

Thanks for your thoughts!!

Woo hoo!

I'm glad you found someone who is well-suited to Craig's needs.  I went to see a physiatrist long before I needed surgery for my neck, and he was so buff and built, he took my breath away.  I almost couldn't believe he was a doctor!  So, I trusted that he knew a lot about the muscles and body structure, but it was hard to take him seriously, almost....  My bad.

Glad to hear, too, about the PT.  I hope he can get started soona and get to feeling stronger.

You sound like you know first hand.  Is that your field?

Sounds great!  Neuromuscular re-education is actually about trying to re-establish the pathway between the area of the body that is not working properly and the extremity.  That can be done with lots of different facilitory techniques and can be very successful if done correctly.

Good luck!
