Pain/Numbness in leg/knee

right leg, right side of calf is numb (just a portion).  when bumped on anything it hurts and causes a burning sensation (pain is almost unbearable at times).  I can no longer get down on my knees.  Left knee left side hurts/burns really bad and I have a very difficult time getting back up due to the pain.  My right knee is extremely weak, and both legs the calves are stiff.  This problem also affects my back where at times I will get extremely sharp pains in the lower back to the point of making it difficult to stand and at times both my hands tingle (pins and needles).  I am wondering what this might be?

thanks for the reply!  Is there anything else you can tell me about other symptoms your g-pa experienced?  Very interested now.  Was it his whole hand twitching or just fingers?
Thank you!

Have they checked for hypoparathyroidism?  My g-pa had that and he would literally sit on his hands to get them to be straight and stop twitching.... I'm sorry your having a rough time, this whole process is slow and very confusing. Please keep us posted..

Many Hugs,

Ada

Essdipity,
Thanks for the response. I have had a full Neuro work up but he is not an MS specialist.  I have had Nerve conduction studules and Evoked Potential.  The only thing that came back is that my reflexes where a bit too fast if you could beleive it.
I also forgot to mention that I get verty fatigued and need to nap as many others have mentioned.  I have tried muscle relaxants but they didn't work, they just knock me out.  I have trouble sleeping as my thumb twitches all the time an dI try to pin it down under the pillow so that it doesn't keep me up all night.  Does anyone have any of these syptoms?  One day, I couldn't even hold a dozen eggs in the grocery store becaus ethey felt like a ton of bricks.  I feel useless.

Yes, you should have a lumbar puncture. Not fun, but necessary. Are you being seen by a MS specialist? And have you had a full neuro exam? You really need to get to the bottom of things, and that's the only way to do it.

Best of luck.

Hi Heather,
Was wondering if you would be able to comment on my situation?

I beleive that I have MS although this has not yet been confirmed.

I have been suffering symptoms since August 2007.  I have a constant twicth in my left thumb.  I suffer from episodes of where I have very little arm and wrist strength which comes and goes.  Maybe three days out of every month for constant pain but I have never regained my musckes strength in either arm or wrist.  I have constant muscles spasms. The last few weeks I have had a pain in my neck (front part) and now my leg feels like jello.  The symptoms come and go in episodes.  I have had blood work done and nothing sticks out. B12 is ok.  I have had two MRI's and they have come back saying that MS is not aparent.  Although they have found a group of tiny lessions in the left frontal part of my head that are likely incidental.  I have also read that 5-10% of individuals with MS will not be aparent through an MRI.  They have recommended I do a lumbar puncture.

What are your thoughts?  Yourself having MS, do any of my syptoms sound like something you have expereinced?  What are your thoughts?

If anyone else has any comments I would very much appreciate some advice.

Thank you

You haven't really given us enough information to help us figure out what is going on.  MS is classified by relapses and remissions of Neurological symptoms and tesing by a Neurologist.  Based on what you have said, I see nothing so far, to suggest that this may be Neurological.  But I am not a doctor, only a person with MS.

Perhaps you can give us some more background about your problems,  When they started, what other symptoms you may have had...what doctor you have seen and what the doctor's are telling you.

Right now, I would hazard a guess that these are Orthopedic problems....But hopefully you can tell us more.

Welcome to the Forum...not matter what this turns out to be.
