Once you have a new symptom... Does it come and go as it pleases?

Hi all MS'rs

I was just wondering once you've had a flare and new symptoms develop like spasticity in leg, can it come and go as it pleases without flare?  I'm not having a flare but my leg keeps getting spastic off and on x few days now so i was just wondering. Thanks!

HI Deb,

I only get the esophogeal spasms when I've choked on food.  It's not really a choke. It's more like the peristalsis that pushes the food down quits working and the food has to slide down by gravity. It can take 2 hrs to swallow one bite! It really hurts!  And yes, if I chew really well, take small bites and wash it down with some liquid I do much MUCH better.  The tripping/spastic leg thing seems to be my worst symptoms though.  It's what is always there in the back ground but flares up and down as it wants.  I think today will be better because I didn't trip up the stairs this morning! LOL.

I am seriously wondering if I should be pushing to see the MS specialist though since my testing is neg right now.  Some Dr's say its MS but the neuro wont put it on paper. He said "just go on with life" so why bother you know..... frustrating. If they get me an appt I'll go just to get my foot in the door I guess.

I have problems swallowing as well.  I have to be very careful swallowing lately--especially with certain foods.  I find that I can't eat anything unless it's washed down with a liquid.  I would definitely put that on your symptom list!  Do you also get those really painful esophageal spasms, too?

I get the trip over the foot thing, also.  It's especially bad on uneven surfaces, inclines,  and stairs.  Many of your symptoms are like mine.  I hope the MS specialist finds out what's wrong with you.

OMG! My voice gets really shaky too!  It comes on x few weeks then goes away. When it's like that I have problems swallowing and will choke if I'm not careful. Maybe I should put that on my symptom list huh.... its been happenign for abour 2 yrs now. Its irritating but I'm use to it.  My leg is getting worse as the day goes on and  now my foot is starting to drop so i have to be careful not to trip.  I'm a LIMBOLANDER right now waiting to see a MS specialist hopefully soon..... THANKS

I am newly diagnosed, but I've had symptoms of MS for years.  The answer is highly variable.  For me, some symptoms that have started up, have stuck around and have never gone away.  The spasticity problem, is one of those.  This has increasingly gotten worse.  I notice the problem when I'm sitting or laying in the bed for a while.  It's worse when I'm cold or when I'm too hot.  It's also really bad when I've over done it.  The neurologist has noted that the spasticity has gotten worse when he tested my reflexes (very hyper) and moved my legs.

There's been other symptoms that come and go.  During my last flare a few weeks ago, I had really bad tremors in my head/neck and my voice was even shaky.  This lasted for a week, and gradually disappeared.
