Possible MS symptoms

Two months ago I started getting electric like, stabbing, shooting pains in my legs and arms and sometimes my back. Then a week after these symptoms started I developed eye pain that started in one eye and moved to both. I also get tingling in my face, and especially my fingers and a tightness on my right forearm. Sometimes the eye pain is throbbing, dull ache, shooting, burning, or just constant. I went to my PCP who tested my B12 level which came back at 179. She did a second test to confirm this but it did not so she said I did not have a deficiency. She referred me to Neurology. The neurologist just did an office neurological exam and looked at my B12 number and said I am really deficient so I started getting B12 injections daily which just started a week ago and now I am on weekly shots. While one the B12 injections daily, I did not have the tingling feelings. This Monday, 3 days after my last injection, the tingling came back in my fingers along with muscle twitches all over my body for 2 days. I'm just worried that these symptoms could be a sign of MS but neither my PCP or neurologist have mentioned that. I had a clean MRI 7 months ago. The doctors have no clue why I have the eye pain. I went to an Opthalmologist and he said everything was normal. Any ideas?

I'm so sorry regarding he uncertainty in the subject of B12. When two board certified physicians disagree on their assessment of something such as this, it gets frustrating. Especially if the issue / possible remedy is something as simple as this.

Some physicians and homeopathic wellness specialists convey that Methylcobalamin V-B12 is the proper grade for use. It is believed that Methylcobalamin as the specific form of B12 is unique in aiding the nervous system, liver and brain health.

It appears (and again, opinions vary) that Methylcobalamin has a much higher absorption rate and retained in higher amounts in your tissues. Thus, and according to various sources, Methylcobalamin is more effective considering its absence of chemically synthesized compound.

If you take a V-B12, I would suggest (if deficient) and per your Physician's advice also, taking a Mega B-Complex that contains Methylcobalamin instead of Cyanocobalmin. Further, find a brand of high quality grade...... Without chemical synthetics.

Food for thought :)

Yes it is. I'm just concerned because my Neurologist is the one that says I definitely have the deficiency but my PCP doesn't really think I do. I've read so many conflicting stories on which type of B12 is better also and the one injection I am receiving is Cyanocobalmin. I've read that Methyl is the only one that really works but when I checked with the pharmacy here, they said Cyano is the only one I can get. I still have unanswered questions and I hope to get some answers tomorrow when I follow up with my PCP.

I am no doctor. What you describe does not really sound like MS. There are two eye conditions in MS double vision no pain and Optic neuritis loss of sight and pain in one eye at a time over time. If they took pictures of your eyes Optic neuritis would show up. An optometrist would pick up on double vision for sure. ON eye pain is nerve pain when you move your eye from side to side. You lose vision or color saturation. When you look at red it is washed out pink. Shooting pains all over is not usually MS.

It will take a while for the B12 shots to work fully. Ask your neuro how long he/she expects before the problems go away, if they proceed after that time go back to the neurologist.

That's what I would do. I would not worry, there are many simple things that could be causing it, including B12.
