Quix RE: Chalmydia pneumoniae and MS

Hey!  I just saw in a reply you posted to someone about a possibel cause of MS being Chalmydia pneumoniae.  Do you have an specific articles or anything about this.  I think it is interesting because I have 3-4 other autoimmune diseases.  Primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis are both autoimmune liver diseases and recently Dr Lindor of the Mayo clinic said (in a conference I attended) that they may be caused by Chalmydia pneumoniae.

I just thought it was very interesting.  Since they think I have MS and I do have those other diseases, having them all caused by the same thing would be great, maybe then I can get better, lol.  I did have pneumonia 4 times in one year, about 7 years ago.  Interesting.

Is there a test they can do for it?

Thanks for your time.  I heard you weren't feeling well.  Hope you get better soon!

Melissa

Sorry I didn't see this post.  Yes, C. pneumoniae (an atypical bacterium, not a virus) is implicated as one of the triggers of MS.  As I mentioned in my other post about the research into the causes of MS, it is clear from hundreds of hard science studies that there is no evidence that MS is directly caused by an active on-going infection.  There have looked at many dozens of possible culprits.  The three with the clearest and most consistent evidence are EBV (with the strongest evidence and in conjuction with a particular form of EBV infection, Infectious Mononucleosis) and HHV-6, Human Herpes Virus 6, and Chlamydia pneumoniae.

It appears that an infection either sets up the immune system or adds an additional bit of damage.  It becomes another part to  the genetic link and the geographical link in the cascade of events that leads to MS.

Again there is no evidence for and lots of evidence against MS being a direct result of an active infection.  All the evidence points to a "past" infection.  I have several hundred scientific references for this.  It is not my opinion.

Also be aware that there are several kinds of chalmydia.  One that causes mostly pneumonia, one that causes a blinding eye disease worldwide, but mostly in northern Africa and others.

Sorry I didn't get back to you.

Hi there - don't think we have met but it is nice to meet you!!

I am an avid researcher and came across an article that related HPV with an autoimmune disease a few weeks ago but my memory is so bad I cannot figure out how I cam eacross this.  I thought it was extremely interesting since I have had Precancerous cervical lesions in te past and I know they are related to HPV.

I will do more research and see what comes up!
Thanks for sharing and big hugs!

Hi, Melissa!  Welcome!  We haven't spoken yet, and I wanted to say Hi!

I have seen your question sitting here for a couple of days, and it's an interesting one, for sure.  I know Quix hasn't been feeling well, so I thought I'd do a little checking just to get a basic answer for you.  Perhaps you can get her to fill in more blanks for you later, but you'll have to re-post, probably, because she may not notice this post, in all likelihood.  She will be trying to get caught up from not feeling well.

I looked up Chlamydia pneumoniae testing first, which told me it was for the birds!  Interesting that it's some sort of aviary bacteria of some kind, but you would know this better than I.  It looks like the testing to confirm the diagnosis is not too readily available.  THEN I looked up Chlamydia pneumoniae ANTIBODY testing.  This is somethign they are testing for.  Along with IgG and IgE, so you are right in thinking, it seems that there is some autoimmune connection.

The article I read said that a distinguishing feature of CP as opposed to other pneumonias is hoarsness.  Did you find this to be true with you?  4 times?!  Oy!

Very interesting, Melissa.  Keep 'em coming.  I hope you'll ask Quix about thisagain so she can shed better light on this.

Feel well!
