MS?

I have experienced MS like symptoms for about 2 years now. Just got through a thorough visit with a Rheum., she drew about 10 vials of blood and tested for everything under the sun - all came back normal except for the EBV. Now I have read quite a bit about the possible conection between EBV and MS and was wondering if anyone here can help me understand the following results: (I also posted these to the EBV forum).

I just received my test results and wondering if someone could help me with an explanation. Dr. breezed over them really quickly and I'm a little confused. I had Mono about 22 yrs ago. Do the following results mean it reactivated and if so, is it still active? Thanks :)

EBV N uclear Antigen Ab, IgG  >8.0
EBV Early Antigen Ab, IgG  3.1
EBV Ab VCA, IgG  >8.0

I also forgot to mention, I have been to see a Neurologist, and he found nothing of significance, but did say to me that it sounds like MS.

Thanks for your help. That is what I was a little unclear on. The doc didn't really explain it to me very well. So the test is basically showing that I had EBV (which I did, 20+ yrs ago).
Ok, since I don't have a current EBV infection, I will need to continue to try and figure out where all the fatigue is coming from and why I feel like I need to crash by lunchtime everyday??? Back t the drawing board.

Sorry....I read your post wrong. I thought your results were 0.8 not 8.0.

The normal range VCA IGM is the test for current infection.Your result is negative.

The other results (nuclear, early, and VCA) IGG means past infection....which over 95% of the population is postive.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, I forgot to post the normal ranges, here they are:

EBV Nuclear Antigen Ab, IgG   Result:  >8.0   Range:  0.0-0.8

EBV Early Antigen Ab, IgG         Result:  3.1     Range:  0.0-0.8

EBV Ab VCA, IgM                         Result:  0.5     Range:   0.0-0.8

EBV Ab VCA, IgG                         Result:  >8.0   Range:  0.0-0.8

Thanks for this info. It would be helpful, though, if fig65 re-posted with the reference ranges listed on her own report. Different labs use different tests and different ranges.

not sure why the entire reference range did not post:

Range:
1.0= positive: IgG anitbody to EBV early (D) antigen detected, which may indicate current or past EBV infection

Here is the normal reference range:

Reference Range:
1.00 IV = Positive: IgG anitbody to EBV early (D) antigen detected, which may indicate current or past EBV infection

Two of yours are in the normal range and the early antigen is positive which means that you had a past EBV.

Around 95% of the population has a positive EBV IGG.

Would you please post the labs reference ranges for these tests?

These are all antibody tests which you would expect to be positive lifelong in a person who has had EBV.   96% of the population has had EBV.  However, MS has some association with people who had actual mono, and not the mild, often asymptomatic infection with it.  So, I think these are all pretty normal, but I would like to see the normal ranges.

Thanks.
