Random Spots of Incurable Burning Itch

I have read about others on here that experience this and know the misery I am speaking of.  During my first major attack my upper chest itched so bad I almost scratched through my skin.
Now I am limited to one tiny little spot on the tip of my right index finger and it drives me nuts.  Though I can't complain as it could be much worse.
I am currently doing a steroid infusion and my at home nurse suggested that maybe the itch is from anxiety and not so much the MS.
Has anyone every been presented with this idea before.
I took a xanax and nothing happened to reduce the itch.  I have now had 2 days of steroid treatment and the itch has subsided greatly.
Just wondering if anyone has heard of the anxiety possibility and if I should bring it up with my doc.

Thanks
D

I think he's probably fine, if it's just the tip of his index finger.

Reason I say this is because I'm getting phantom cold sensations in the tip of my nose, my right lower lip, and the corner of my right eye.  There's something very peculiar about having a cold sensation right there in the eye - it's like I dropped ice-cold Visine in that area.

Now I think it's possible that MS causes anxiety, or at least the symptoms of anxiety.  It's also possible that anxiety can make your symptoms worse.  But in this case it's much more likely that you have nerve damage causing the itch, rather than anxiety.

She may be saying anxiety because that is what Xanax is usually prescribed for. A lot of medicines for anxiety and depression are also used for things with the nervous system because they can help cut the signal of pain or itching. When people with MS experience pain, itching or weird sensations it is like the ghost pain an amputee experiences from nerves being cut. In our case the scarring cuts the signal. Sometimes these drugs work and sometimes not.
