Referred for another opinion--update again

My neurologist, whom I do care for greatly and who helps care for my daughter, is referring me to an MS specialist for another opinion.  As I mentioned before, my second MRI in three years shows "increased and larger areas of leukoencephalopathy...) than the MRI three years ago.  (LP negative, and he checked for clotting disorder in case the areas were due to strokes--that labwork was normal as well.  Cervical MRI was normal, too, also mentioned earlier.)  I did keep calling the office to ask what do the more and larger areas mean?  How much more and how much larger?  Should we do evoked response exams or have a full neurological exam, etc.?  So now the referral to the specialist.  (Who, by the way, saw me around six years ago and said the "spots" were due to high blood pressure.)
Suddenly I felt like maybe I asked too many questions...but she said he thought another opinion by the specialist would be the way to go.  I should feel good about that but now I feel funny...maybe I'm just afraid...or I don't want the specialist to act like I'm wasting his time again...who knows.
Any guesses why I'd be referred to the specialist before doing the evoked responses or full neuro exam, etc.?  I guess this is a good thing all in all...

It sounds like your neurologist is concerned and wants to find out what is happening.  I don't know what Leukoencep___ is but it certainly doesn't sound good.  Perhaps he wants to make sure it's not MS before exploring other possibilities.  He may not want you to have to do more tests if he isn't sure he is barking up the right tree.

There are so many things that this could be.  I hope you have answers soon, I know how hard this is!

I hope that you can get in to see the MS specialist soon.

I'd guess that it's not Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy - because I think that would be extremely serious.

Good luck to you with your appt.

I think the doctor is being kind.  He knows you are worried about it being MS so he is referring you to a specialist.  He seems not to be afraid to have a peer look over his shoulder.  I would respect him and see the specialist.
