Rib pain??? and my VENT!!!!

Sorry it's been a while since I posted, I'm sort of "blah" lately, and just trying to do my own thing, and enjoy the weather before it gets too warm (it's about 77 F here I think).

I am so tired of waiting for the docs to get their s**t gathered! ARG!

Ok, I got that off my chest now. On May 18 I went into the clinic after a week and a half of some funky eye things going. The doctor said he was referring me to an Optho, and that he sustected I would be in that week to see the Optho, it's now June 5 and I haven't even heard from the Optho's office for an appointment. Of course, my eye seems to be back to normal now, so it almost seems pointless to go at all.  I saw the Urologist last week, and he wants to do some tests, a renal/pelvic ultrasound and something that involves a light into the bladder, I'm waiting to hear when those are (I am just being impatient about this one, since it hasn't been that long). And my PCP is away, and the earliest I could get an appointment with her if I tried, would be mid month.

Now, to top this off, I'd LIKE to see my doc. I'm having this weird thing going on in the rib area. Basically the bottom of my rib cage (front and back, left and right) is sore and stiff. It's been like this for a couple of weeks now. For the most part it's not bad, it's just mildly annoying, but sometimes I have one arm wrapped around the area at the front, and the other wrapped around (as well as it can) the area in the back. I can't explain it, it's not a squeezing feeling, it's  more of a burning/aching/stiff feeling. Kind of like if you did too many sit-ups (but a bit higher) the day before.

Like WTF? I don't know what this is, but it's at it's worst at night and in the morning, and last night the pain actually woke me up periodically throughout the night when I moved or rolled over.

I don't get it. I am sooooooooooooooooo tired of all this, and I think I am more sensitive because my throat's on the fritz again too. I am starting to think I may have to go see my "back up" doctor again. I prefer my PCP because she knows more of my "story" but whatever.

Ok, I'm done my rant. Anyone have any clues about the rib thing?

Uggg

hi christine,
I think i just commented earlyer today on someone with the same complant.
my story is 2 1/2 months ago now had traveling pain that moved from rt pelvic to rt back to belly button and finally up to ribs, takes turns from front to back.i've had all the GI testing, final verdict..IBS with constipation, here i sit now taking the meds, plus my regular pain meds and i don't think i'm not constipated right now, and my ribs hurt bad.I don't know what to think, everybody says its just gas,but i van't feel thats right all the time, maybe sometimes, but like not right now, putting heat on it, and chillin all this day and hoping tommorow it will magically disappear! please let us know if you come up with a better answer when you do see a doctor, another suggestion wouldn't hurt huh?
I hope you feel better, and have a better nights rest, maybe an extra pillow on your sides might help.                                                  humming

Hi Humming,

Thanks for your words. I did sleep better last night but I'm chalking that up to exhaustion LOL.
One thing I've found is that I don't have constipation problems at all. Actually, I'm typically at my most uncomfortable when I lay down to go to sleep. I sleep on my stomach, so I'm streching out when I lay down, and that seems to be when I usually have the most pain/discomfort. I'll toddle into a doctor's office one of these days, just so it's written down somewhere.
After both my experiences with my Neurologists, I've not bothered keeping a symptom journal (bad me), since I feel like it'll never really make a difference anyway. I'm doing the "ologist to ologist" dance. If one part hurts, or doesn't work properly, I see the appropriate "ologist". Every "ologist" I see, I make a point of mentioning consistent ongoing nerve type problems, hoping something will strike a chord with someone. So far no luck, but who knows when that could change :)

In the mean time, I just do my best to "suck-it-up". Not much more I can do!

Thanks again for your words
Christine

I'm so sorry that you're in pain and are not getting any relief for it.  I don't have any advice for the rib pain you are going through.  Hope someone can help here.

I sure can empathize with the "ologist" dance as I've done it frequently myself.  I'm sort of debating doing the 2-step with an endocrinologist right now.  A couple of symptoms that I have may be more endocrine related.

But, I am getting tired of all of these appointments right now.  I need a break, especially when during the summer when my 4 kids are home.  I don't want to be toting them from appt to appt looking for answers.

One thing a couple of people told me for my situation (one was my physical therapist), was to not mention the MS suspicion when I go to another doc.

She said, and this did happen at two different docs I went to, that they will say that all my symptoms sound like MS ~ go back to your neuro.   They basically closed their mind to other causes of some symptoms I was having.  Some of those symptoms did indeed have other causes and have been taken care of.

You could have multiple things going on.  Maybe try not mentioning the nerve stuff to the "ologists" and see if they can look further into what's going on??  Just a suggestion.

Take care and I hope that you can get some relief soon!  Pat :)

Thanks Pat,

I actually don't mention MS at all because, to be real, I don't think I have MS. I don't have any clue what else it could be, but I seem to be missing the clearly defined start and stop that's associated with MS, at least as far as I can tell.  My last "attack" ran on, with a variety of different symptoms stopping and starting, from last July until January, at which point I had a couple of weeks of feeling almost decent, and then slowly started down the slipperly slope again. As well, my symptoms are far from "classic" MS. Not that I'm qualified to diagnose myself, just my personal thoughts on the matter.

I do mention the nerve stuff in so much as I say something like "I do have a bunch of other 'weird stuff' going on as well, that seems to be unrelated to this problem", so if they want more information, I will give it, and if they don't it's not being foisted upon them. The Urologist specifically asked me, after we'd talked about my history with the bladder issues and the symptoms I was having, if I had "brain damage, neurological condition, or MS?". I said "Oh I have something neurological going on all right, but no one seems to know what it is. My MRI without contrast was clear". Leave it at that. he seems intrigued. Maybe that's a good thing for me? I dunno.

I appreciate the suggestions though. Bring them on!

Hi :)
Un dx'd here....
I have the same rib cage deal that went on a couple of weeks ago. It is totally gone now! Go figure!  But it hurt really bad and kept me up at night when I rolled over!  It also spread into the back shoulder blade which caught me off guard and stopped me in my tracks! I coulnt even breath!
I havent been back to the Dr. Just got tired of it all.
My urologist is the most intrigued of all my Drs. He was the one that found the urine retention after 2 years with my PCP giving me antibiotics for constant UTIs!
He definately thinks it is neurological.  One neuro says probable MS the 2nd opinion Dr I think wrote me off as luney, but I don't really know cause I havent gone back to either one!
I sure hope the rib pain goes away for you soon. It is not fun!!!
Wishing you better!!!!

you know...I've been having pains not bad pains...in my sides...just under rib area...mostly right side,,goes to my back...then the left side started too... I told the Dr.. the pain isn't too bad, but it's there and bothersome.  I've had it a few weeks now.  comes and goes...but more often now.

I asked if it was my liver?  Gall bladder?
dr said no...and doesn't know what it is...
he checked my breathing and said it was alright??

so we will see what it is.. I'm not yet Dx..

I don't have a gallbladder, so I know mine's not bugging me anymore...LOL.

It actually feels muscular. Stiff and sore in the same was as when you do too many sit-ups, but more in the rib area....oh and I've been avoiding sit ups since....oh since about HIGH SCHOOL lol.

Does anyone else get to the point where it's like 'oh maybe I'll mention it to the doc ONE day, can't be too important if it isn't bugging me that much'??? Or is that just me? lol
