Waving hello! how warm is too warm?

Having trouble with the heat again... my new job where I've worked now three weeks as a patient registration specialist gets very warm in the afternoon.. the past few afternoon I went to look at the thermstat by my work station and it was in the mid 80's. My patients are often wondering if we even HAVE A/C becuase it's so warm. My question is, will this be ok to be warm like this day in and out for someone with an unknown neurological disease that heat seems to affect.

I know the heat affects me, as at a graveside service saturday I felt quite awful in the heat and my friends said my eyes went blank and I went quiet and they rushed me into the AC and afterword I didn't remember much of what happened and I just felt overall worse. Usually with heat I just have more trouble with my muscle and with the tingling sensations and with my speech and memory.

I did want to let you know my echocardiogram was quite good and the heart doctor did ask about doing muscle biopsy's after confering with my other heart doctor over past test results, but I asked that we not do any more tests at the present time.

thank you guys!

thanks for the response. I know that it's too warm, but I actually haven't said much because I'm cold natured and like to feel warm to a degree and surprisingly another office coworker has been the one to always mention how warm it is and to ask if anything can be done and she does have a small fan and i'm looking to buy one myself. so far, they haven't done anything to help with the AC problem they just said that's how it's been since they built the place.

Dan- I never fainted and I did ask later what happened at the graveside since I didn't remember it, they just said I went quiet and got a blank look in my eyes. Odd, but considering I have had seizure like activity before, who knows. I just don't want THAT happening very often. As far as my fluids, they just tested again becuase now another Dr.'s opinion is that my potassium could be going to high which he said is fatal (i think he was trying to scare me into more tests since I wasn't going to let him test). I personally think they need to get this all figured out and ASAP becuase this electrolyte and magnesium/potassium/whatever-else imbalance is getting OLD. i'm waiting on those test results this week.

on the bright sunnyshine side of things, I had a wonderful day at work, I just celebrated my little sis's birthday, and I'm looking forward to the weekend and my wonderful plans already even though it's only Monday night. And... I laughed a lot today making me realize once again it was good to be alive! :) Remember to smile....

Hi, Sunny!

Quix thinks that getting hot is a bad idea for anybody with neurological damage - her neuro has told her it actually damages you further.  I know that personally when I get overheated it really takes it out of me, and I usually have to go take a nap and reset my brain.

So it would really be a question of whether you can do your job when it's that warm.  If you find that your performance is affected, it would be a good idea to mention it to your employers.

I know that in the afternoon, the poor AC just can't ceep up in my house.  It often registers 79 to 81. The poor thing never shuts off.  I know that it is the clomate, but what is a gorl to do.  I think that you should get a small pattery fan for your area.  They are compact and don't make alot of noise. One of them saved our lives after Katrina.

Best wishes,
Ann

Mom's right, Sunshine.  Indoors they shouldn't let the temp get that high.  What temp is good for you I can't say, but I'm thinking 80s is likely pushing it.

I've seen more than one person get faint at graveside services in the heat.  How are you doing these days with your fluids?

Happy to hear the echo was good.  Don't be such a stranger; this place just isn't as sunny without you among us.

Good to see you posting.

Are those indoor temps in the 80s?  If so, then that is toooo hot.  Anyone healthy or not would have problems with the temp.  But add on a undiagnosed neurological disorder and you could end up having some problems.  Hasn't anyone on the office staff complained?  I can't imagine patients putting up with that either.

You need to be careful in the heat especially if you are having this new symptom of what appears to be some type of seizure response to it.

Let's see what the rest of the gang has to add.  Take care and do talk to someone about cutting on the A/C in the office.
