the weather is going to kill me

Hey Guys and dolls,

Oh brother this summer is going to kill me, i'm in Australia for those that dont know, still Spring but its starting to get hot. We've just had 3 hot days in a row, I thought i had the aircon on but ds has fiddled and instead i've had hot air filling up the house, i could of strangled him lol. Outside was 32d (lost my marbles in the heat so cant work out the F) and inside was 29, no wonder the pain was getting worse as the day went on.

Heat isn't a friend but i didn't expect it to be quite so bad, funny how you forget.lol At the end of last summer, my left arm veins began to engorge, its been a daily issue ever since, and its spreading. Last night, 3am mind you and i'm still trying to get to sleep, blasted arm, felt like I had a 3ton elephant sitting on it. I had to get up and check what was going on, i couldn't bend my (whats the finger next to your thumb called?) well that one, its usually the pinky that can't bend because the vein in the first joint has popped out like a bulging marble.

I'm looking and there is nothing there to see, still can't bend it, still hurts like the dickens and the vein in the joint isn't a marble. I turn my hand over and bl@@dy hellfire, the veins are huge, did you know you have veins that run up your fingers, well I didn't. When its been bad before, both sides from the elbow but last night my veins in that entire arm where bulging bigger than ever and so very painful. Explains why i had that 3 ton elephant in bed with me lol So i cooled down my arm and things start to settle, and i'm sure the pain killers helped.

So today i didn't feel like i'd had any sleep though i didn't get up until 10, its hot already and getting hotter, my right eye is hurting, the veins had already started to pop again so i'm checking out the circular saw. I'm flopping around like a dead fish for most of the day, back in bed by 3, wake at 6pm by a storm worthy of the GODS. Hail, wind and rain hitting so hard and so fast all the guttering that surrounds the house is failing to cope, so water is now flooding in. All we need now is for the tree to fall down, oops dont mention things you dont want to happen. lol

Dh comes home and he's straight up the ladder, emptying gutters that are now full from all the stuff blown off the tree, ahhh just in time for the second wave of storm to hit and yes he's still up the ladder. I've never been in a storm so loud and so hard, i'm watching the wind whip up the rain so its coming down side ways and remember dh is up the ladder and head for the front of the house, fully expecting to see him a crumpled heap on the ground. Lucky though drenched and covered in debre, he'd managed to hold on long enough and came down in a hurry at the first lull. Hmmmm more tree came down, so its now half in our back yard and half in the neubours, so dh hunts down the chain saw and he's playing HE-MAN AFRAID OF NOTHING!

We manage to mop and chop up most of the mess, the sun peeks through and wham-o, its now sticking hot again. Seriously it was like i'd stepped into a sauna, i mumbled o-oh and bolted out side, stripping off my top as I went. Hmmm not something i'd recommend when you've got your daughters boy friend over for dinner, ooops my bad ROFL! I forgot, i really did, all i had running through my head was lulu or what i imagine lulu to sound like, COOL DOWN! QUICK COOL DOWN! Why out side, well it was still raining and that had to be cold, right?

Dh is up and bolting after me, see i'd gone as white as a sheet, i'd thought i'd bolted with finess but no i'd been staggering like a drunk desperate for a place to pass out. 1/2 an hour later, wet but starting to feel human again, still a bit wobbly, shacky, feet not stepping over the door frame, words if not lost, coming out like i'd left my marbles out side, ahhhh dinners ready and its time to eat lol yeah not going to happen folks. But like a good mother I sit down to dinner because dd took over whilst we were mopping and chopping, so if i dont eat she'll get up set, It only took me 2 hours.

So fun times we've had tonight, more of the same expected tomorrow, not sure i'm going to cope with my arm for long, have an appointment with a vein specialist next month, i might call monday and ask for an earlier day, if not that circular saw will start to look like a better option lol. Oh and one of the sx i picked up last episode has grown, the vibration in the inside of my left calf is now all the way up to my groin, had it since last saturday, almost a week but i dont count them until i've had a new sx for 7 days, then i uncross my fingers lol. Just another reason why i'm having trouble getting to sleep, just shoot me!

So if you've got and tips or tricks in your kit bag, please pass them on cause i dont think this summer is going to be anything like the last ones, and they were not fun as it is.

Cheers.......JJ

Well I suggest avoiding Qld. Having tried that for 5 years I can safely say it's much nicer in the south. I just saw your forecast and you need not worry for a week at least, in fact it'll be warmer in Canberra.

First year I was in Bris was the hottest summer on record. For 6 months the temp didn't drop below 30C, except for at about 5am for 30 minutes, just before dawn.So I mean all through the night it was still above 30, let alone during the day.  Humidity between 60 and 90%.

Now THAT was yuck! (horrid , overrated place, Qld!)

I tried to find cooling vests last summer, i did find a cooling neck tie thingy but its not that good, not sure if the vests are available over here yet, i'll have another look. I do like the idea of a fishing vest, we are a big fishing nation, so i'm bound to find one small enough to fit me, so i'll check that out too.

I have seen these stretchy wet suit type material, zip up sleeveless tops, i wondered if something like that, where i can slip inside the freezer thingies and them not fall out, that might substitue for a cool vest.

Thanks!!

Cheers.....JJ

PS thankfully the storm has dropped the temp so its only 18 today, and tomorrow we expect the same, my fingers are crossed that the rest of the tree stays put in the next storm scheduled for this afternoon.

I made a cooling vest by taking a fishing vest with lots of pockets. I put ice packs in the pockets. I wet hat in the freezer is nice as well.

I know it's not easy in the summer heat and I'm sure it's hot where you are..

Hope you find some ways to stay cool.... I sometime have cool showers to help me when the weather is warm...or cool bath...

take care
