Hi,
I have been on generic Requip for a few years, at first it was a blessing. The last few weeks it does not seem to work anymore, I take 1 mg, I have even taken an extra tab when I can't handle it. I am so depressed due to not sleeping with RLS. Also having hot flashes. I also have Graves. I am so desperate for something that will work. I'm starting to get nervous that it is not RLS but something more serious. Sometimes it also effects my arms and shoulders.
I am soooo tired!
TY
Hi ,
Just read your post. I just started Requip. The leg cramps can be helped with tonic water. Yes, tonic water. Try it, it couldn't hurt.
How long did it take for the meds to start working.
Erin, pain and not sleeping will drive anyone to anger. I hope your doctor considers giving pain medication...round the clock in patch form. What is it that they can't understand?
Hoping you give the doctor a few calls waking him/her. Maybe then it might be considered?
I called the neuro first thing this morning and I am so frustrated again/still?!!
They called me back at 3:30 which is good that at least it was the same day but ...... I was in the middle of hubbies 1st diabetic education/training appt and had to excuse myself, it wasn't the doctor it was her assistant and I have such a difficult time putting things in to words that I still don't think she understands my pain.
I have been with my neuro for 4 years and she knows how to pull things out of me with questions etc. until we are on the same page. The "newbie" doesn't get that I have severe cog issues so this is the 2nd time I have been passed on to her and I don't feel like she understands that I don't always express things right.
Oh well after talking she said that my leg pain doesn't sound like it's from the requip even though I explained that I am the weirdo that gets the unlikely side effects. She said to lower the dose back down to once at bed time and call her in a week if the pain gets worse or doesn't get better.
Off to bed now - work in the morning so I hope I get some zzzz's and I will see what the next week brings & then figure out if I should or shouldn't call again.
Hugs,
Erin :)
They better not take it away w/out a replacement!
I'm doing better w/my sleep, knocking on wood. Thank you for asking. I'm not on anything for it right now and hope to stay that way. I don't get a lot, but even 6 or 7 hrs is a true blessing. I feel your pain - it's just so horrible - walking around like a zombie all day everyday whether it's halloween or not - seriously, nothing good comes of it.
I pray everything works out someway for you....
(((hugs - sprinkled w/some pixie dust:))

Shell,
I read that long list they give you with your rx and it did list muscle/tendon pain as a possible side effect under the less often but can happen section. I never get the "normal" side effects so it probably is from the equip.
I really do choose sleep - like you said everything declines without it but I am going to call the neuro tomorrow and let them know and see what they say. I wouldn't want to find out that it's not just pain but a symptom of something really bad like clots or who knows what else.
I hope they don't take my sleep away!
What's new with you? I hope that you are feeling well and having a nice stretch without problems.
Hugs,
Erin :)
P.S. I liked your MS is post it was fun to read!
I've had so many sleep issues through the past couple yrs I tend lean on the side of going w/it to see if it passes but then again meds aren't anything to mess with and the leg bit does sound hard to handle.
My gosh Erin, this is a doosey. Sleep deprivation is dibilitating. I feel it makes everything decline. Do you know if this is a know side affect? One that may pass after a month or so?

Thank you all and VERY sorry! Wow what a cranky little "B" I was last night!
I am much happier today because I actually got several hours of sleep in between my leg jerks, muscle pain and night sweats. I can handle all of that as long as I get the sleep in there too. I just crawled out of bed an hour ago to tackle the day and I think the pity party has ended :)
Daisies - Yes it does list muscle pain as a possible side effect but like most meds the list is huge they list everything under the sun. My health is more important and I will call the neuro - I just needed a push to do it so thanks
Debtea I am sorry for your new dx. I used to tell people that at least they are off the roller coaster of searching but I shouldn't say that because it is a new roller coaster of reality for you now and I'm sorry that you are on it. If you ever need to talk I am usually much more up beat and would love to be there if you need to talk send me a message. I hope that you are doing well with your adjustment stage and have lots of support. Thanks for the thoughts & prayers I will keep you in mine as well.
Paula thanks for saying that you get the wanting the sleep more thing. It sounds crazy if you have never been sleep deprived. I hadn't thought of the leg pain as causing me harm. Side effects are unpleasant but you bring up an important possibility. I will call the doc for sure.
I hope that you are all feeling well and enjoy your weekend. It is 75 and sunny here not too hot but nice. I think it's going to be a good one.
Thanks Again - I needed you and you were there
Hugs,
Erin :)
I would call your doctor and at least explain what is going on. Your doctor should tell you what to do and you and him/her can come to some sort of decision.
If the pain is as bad a you describe then please do contact him/her. Maybe there is some different medication they can give you to work with the requip.
I think I would want the sleep more but it depends on if the requip is causing me harm on what I would do.
Take Care
Paula
I am about to start rebif, so if I have any leg pain I will let you know. Sorry I can't be of much help now. I think you should call the doctor and let them know how much you hurt. They may be able to do something for you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Sorry I did not respond the first time but I have been going through so much dealing with my new diagnosis - sort of a rollercoaster ride!
Take care and be well
Debtea
I think you need to tell them about your leg pain as it may be significant. I know it means they may take you off the drug, but your health is important and they need to know of any changes.
Does the leaflet mention anything of leg pain as a side effect?
Well I'm feeling kind of cranky. Leg pain and no sleep so I logged on to check on everyone and no I am hurt!
Not one person took the time to respond to my dilema or if they didn't have an answer at least give some of that hang in there moral support that we are always telling everyone that they came to the right place.
Hope everyone is in less pain than me tonight and feeling more love too
:( Erin
