The other neurological disorder that makes symptoms worsen with heat is Mitochondrial disease. Heat plays havoc with the symptoms to the point of having heat stroke. I have to live in the air-conditioning during the summer time, which is why I love the winter so much.
Melissa,
In my opinion everyones experiences with heat and humidity can be different. I live in New York and we have long cold winters and only roughly 4.5 months of warmer weather a year. In the past I have ALWAYS loved the heat and humidity and would say "The HOTTER the BETTER" but over the last few years my opinion has changed.
My main symptom with the heat is fatigue. There are some days as soon as I walk outside I can feel my energy leaving my body :( I also have found I get very over heated very easily and when I do I have bouts of nausea and profuse sweating.
Some things I do to help myself during heat waves is cold shower before I leave the house, I tend to stay away from caffiene as much as possible and increase my water consumption, and also I soak a bandanna in cold water. wring it out and wear it on my head to keep my core temperature as low as possible for as long as possible.
A couple of tips to remember..... some statistics say it takes 4-6 8oz glasses of water to make up the dehydrating effects of one caffeinated beverage. Also the water you drink today..... is what you body uses tomorrow! So If you have outdoor activities planned in the heat start preparing the day before by avoiding or limiting caffeine and increasing you water intake.
I hope these tips help!

Hi Melissa,
How long before your MRI? Heat fatigue is not just isolated to MS. Many diseases are worse in the heat, I think we just fatigue more easily.
I have Transverse Myelitis and that is worse in the heat but I guess that is similar to MS but I find any raise in body temperature usually makes my symptoms worse.
Cheers,
Udkas.
