The Verdict

Hi, again, Peeps~

I saw my neuro today, who was very concerned about me.  He told me over and over again.  He said that he didn't know I was scheduled for today, but left a note for the office staff to call me and have me come in.  I am pretty sure this is because he didn't see me when I came to his office with severe weakness and he didn't have time to see me.  Then as I tried to make it out to the parking lot, my legs didn't support me and I fell.  He was concerned.

The good news is:  No more tests.  And I have a diagnosis.  Migraines.  THis is the bottom line of all the problems I have been having for the last couple of years.  Migraines.  The better news is that my MRI, MRA and MRV came up normal.  As I knew it would.  Migraines can cause all kinds of symptoms, and I was having a mild pre-menstrual migraine earlier in the day that my legs and arm gave out.  Migraines.

THe best news is, I am going to live with this diagnosis.  My husband wants me to, and it makes some kind of sense.  I feel well, and my fatigue is lifting.  I am trying to get a new job, and I am going to work on getting into good physical shape.

I will follow up with my doctor in 3 months, and he will evaluate my medications at that time.  No change for now.

I am not going anywhere.  This forum is my home.  Thanks for all your help.

I heard a quote recently that hit me hard.

"You've got to get busy living or get busy dying."

Honey, I'm so happy that you finally have an answer.  An answer that you can live with is even better.  I never claimed to be smart but I feel dumb because I had no idea that migraines could cause MS symptoms.  But if they do and your happy with that answer then so am I.  You should never, ever, even think of leaving us.  Like Quix said, you can peek in on a migraine forum but this is where your heart belongs and you know that.  Right?

I'm glad that you are trying to go back to work and that you are also trying to start living again.  Even with the MS diagnosis I have it took me a long, long, time to realize that I had to still live my life.  It should be a lesson for all of us.  No matter what the doctors tell us we have got to keep on living or get up and start living.  Life is to short for us to sat around and waste away.

I'll be praying,
Carol

Hi Chris!

I am happy for you that you finally got some answers!  I am wondering (like many others), how this is sitting with you?
I have never had migraines, so I'm not sure how they can effect your body, mind, etc...

And by the way, If I can't leave here, you can't leave here...You're stuck with us, my dear lady!  (Torturous, isn't it??  LOL)

Please let us know how they intend on treating you.

Take care, Chris.

Hi,

A diagnosis for now is good.  It means they'll keep monitoring etc and that will help. And also if anything else happens they'll pick it up.

I also now have a diagnosis of occular migraines. And it does explain part of what's been going on.  And it means I will be getting annual monitoring by MRI and visual field testing.  I see my neuroopthamologist tomorrow.  Will see if anything useful comes out of that.  But at least with annual monitoring things will be picked up if they change.

Hey Girl,

Well, well... well... I just don't know what to say.  Hubby wants you to live w/it, but how does Twinkle Toes really feel about this.  Just be true to yourself honey.  If you are ok, then we are okay.

I don't know enough about Migraines.  And, sometimes I get, well you know, a little doubtful, and won't encourage you to be that way.  So, having said that, can they fix this? Can they make sure your face doesn't droop anymore, that your legs don't fall out on you?

Just want you to be in good hands darling!

SO happy to hear you finally have an actual diagnosis, and that you can be treated!  Knowing what is happening must ease your mind a bit.  An answer...once that answer is in your hands you have something tangible to deal with and you can now shift your attention to one specific "thing."

And good luck on the job hunt!

SO happy for you...

I am very intrested in what you are saying, because that is the dx they are leaning toward for me. I have had migraines all my life. But not all the fun stuff that has come lately in the last 4 months. Wow, maybe that could be it. I was recently started on Keppra for a preventive. I agree, if any more sx come about, make sure to tell your doc.

Keeping you in prayers,
Beth

I'm glad you got a diagnosis!  That is great news.  And I can tell you that my mother has had migraines for years to the point of being on disability since the age of 45 (she's now 58).  She also gets weakness in her legs at times.

ZILLA,

NO LONGER A LIMBO-LANDER.  AS A KID GROWING UP,MY MOTHER SUFFERED FROM SEVERE MIGRAINES.THEY WOULD INCOMPASITATE HER FOR DAYS ON END.

SHE'D SAY HER LEGS WERE WEEK OR SHE HAD NUMBNESS AND SO FORTH.

LIKE YOU STATED NO MORE TEST AND YOU AND HUBBY CAN LIVE WITH THE DX,PROMISE IF NEW SYMPTOMS ARISE,THAT YOU SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION AS NOT ALL CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO ONE DISORDER.

SWEETIE I'M LIVING PROVE AND ALL THIS TIME THEY THOUGHT THE MS WAS THE CAUSE OF THE SEVERE LEG IMPAIRMENT,WRONG ITS THE AA ALSO.

AND NO YOU CAN'T LEAVE US,WE ARE HOME AND YOU HAVE MUCH TO OFFER ON ANOTHER MIMICER OF MS.

PLUS I GOTTA REAL GOOD IDEA WHERE YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS IS,OKAY I KNOW ALOT ABOUT YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS (LOL)

I HOPE YOUR MEDS ARE EFFECTIVE AND I LOVE YOUR ATTITUDE ITS INSPIRING TO ALL OF US.YOU WANNA MOVE FORWARD AND I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK WITH THE NEW JOB PROSPECTS.

HUGS AND PRAYERS

Hi. WOW. Migraines.  I guess to a certain extent I can see that.  Although I don't know your total history other than your severe fatigue and the one sided numbness/weakness episode you had recently, I have had some big episodes with migraines in the past. I grew up with migraines since the age of 10.  At fourteen while running during PE I got a bad one quickly, can't remember all the details but I somehow ended up in the nurses office packed with ice, which led to calling an ambulance and then they took P.E. away from me forever.  One year later, once again I had a migraine. I  was asleep and woke up to both legs being completely numb and useless.  Went to ER, where they gave me a shot because they believed that I was having a reaction to a new medication although later they were never completely sure it was a reaction.  These were bad, but there have been many that left me with such weakness for days and a few that I just can't remember what to place.  Migraines can be very debilitating.

OK it took me about an hour to finish this post.  KIDS!  So I hope they have truely found your problem and you can work towards getting better.  Do you have doubts?

Wow!  I had no idea that migraines could cause all of the issues that you have been having but I guess if you are willing to accept this as the final answer, I will too!  I hope that they are able to help you out with meds that will control this so that you can get on with your life!  I wish you luck with the job hunt and I have to say that I am envious of you and your diagnosis but at the same time I am ecstatic for you!  I wish you luck with all of this and I know you won't go anywhere...you care too much about everyone on here and we all know what that means to all of us.

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Hey Sweetie, I am so happy that you have a dx!!!  And one that you can live with, that is great but I'm sorry you have the migraines.  I get them a few times a week and they are not as bad as yours but I really feel for ya girl.  They sure are complicated migraines, though so I hope that treatment will subside the symptoms.  Hang in there Sweetie.  I am just so happy for you to have a dx.  I am here for ya girl.

Love Ya,

Ada

I agree with Moki and Kathy...you couldn't escape if you wanted to. We're pretty good sleuths ourselves, ya know, Miss Crime Scene Investigator!

I'm so happy that you got an answer you can live with. I too am a little skeptical but who am I to disagree? A doc a year ago tried to pin my symptoms on migraines (of course mine are a "history" now, not a current issue), but recanted as migraine couldn't explain spazapalooza.

Are they putting you on some good meds? You can judge the accuracy of the Dx by the effectiveness of the meds. I hope to the heavens that they are right - a nice, treatable condition (ok, the nice thing is way wrong, but you know what I mean).

Congrats!

Okay, we'll go with migraines.  Did they make any change in medications since you were admitted to the hospital?  If not, what is to prevent another identical episode?  It worries me if they are not making a maximal effort on the preventative front.

For Moki, complex migraines can have an effect that lingers a week or so.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the severe fatigue, the upper neuron signs and complex migraine, but I don't know much about the topic.

Yes, we will live with it.  But, we will live with it here!  You are allowed to peek in at the Migraine forum and even post there if need be, but we'd better not see any dawdling.

Hear me?

You bet you are going no where!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd come and hunt you down myself. You are way to important and loved here to leave for any reason my friend.

I'm glad you got a diagnosis Zilla but Migraines? I do know that although highly unusual that they can cause neurological symptoms but I thought that they were to subside shortly after the migraine is over. Are you okay with that diagnosis? I don't want to sound like a wet noodle here and the good Lord knows that I am in no way medically smart, I'm just trying to understand if this is a true diagnosis or just a label.

I'm glad you are trying to get a new job and get in physical shape, that is just great. Kudos to you.

Sending you great big hugs

You bet your sweet bippy this is your home!  It wouldn't be the same here without you.

I had no idea that migraines could do all they do.  I've had pre-menstrual migraines and a few others, but would never have connected them to all you've gone through.  That just goes to show how little I know!  Oh, lordy, I've got a sugar high from that half-pint of fat free frozen yogurt I just ate.

Well, it is a good thing to have a diagnosis at long last.  What a weight off your shoulders; no more tests and wondering.  I'm sure there are great med now that help with whatever form of a migraine there is.

I'm glad your neuro kissed your patooty so we don't have to roast him Friday!  I'm sure he genuinely regretted his not making time to see you before, and was truly concerned.

Will your neurologist be who you follow up with, do they deal with migraines?  Or will you follow up with your primary care doctor.

I'm just glad you're OK and here to stay. ( I have to stop rhyming!)

Sending you a big hug,

Kathy
