Jensequitur -Well that sure sounds painful having had a spasm then the hug. I believe I've had several MS hugs but they don't last long.
I stopped taking Baclofen and Provigil at the same time because I was having so many side affects and when I researched each medication some of my concerns were listed for both. My intent was to start them up again one at a time to see which my be the problem but I never did that.
My spasticity is in fact worse in the sense that it is more wide spread. I've been trying to stretch, my husband sometimes has to massage my legs and I just finished physical therapy because of this. However, I notice my back is getting spastic more often. There are nights that I can't sleep because I'm so tight up in my neck, shoulders and back.
You said that you insisted your doctor give you a script for this. Did he not think it would work for this issue. I was told that Baclofen was good for me because I also get spasticity in my tendons and the way it works in the body was suppose to help both types of spasticity. I had just started taking 3 pills a day when I started getting more side affects so hopefully you will do better than I did. Although I'm not totally convinced that it was the Baclofen since I do have hypertension and Provigil may affect me negatively because of this.
Sumana - when Jensequitur asked me about why I stopped taking Baclofen I remembered that it was due to many side affects but I couldn't remember all of them. I had listed them in a notebook that I take to my doctors visit so I went to see what they were. One of the side affects for Provigil was neck rigidity. Now I do remember having unexplained stiff necks before I was diagnosed and before starting Provigil so this may be totally unrelated but I did just start taking Provigil this last week so it could be contributing to my already stiff condition.??
I don't think that Provigil would cause these problems. I have never used Baclofen. Maybe it is time to revisit it? I always ask about medicines because if there is a reaction, I usually get it...lol
I hope I find you feeling better.

Hey, chica - sorry to hear about your jaw. I've had similar problems with a muscle in my neck on the right side. I had one day when every time I swallowed, that muscle would cramp up. Then it went down into my esophagus and I ended up with the hug for a few hours... no fun!
Now why did you stop taking Baclofen? Did you have a decrease in spasticity? Or was it some problem with the drug?
I ask because I've just started Baclofen - after the incident with my jaw, I insisted that I get a scrip from the doc for it. He had prescribed Flexaril for me, but it wasn't doing anything for the hug, and it only helped a little with the neck.
I'm on two pills a day (titrating up). At first it was working great, but as the week goes on I've started to notice cramping around my ribs again, so I guess two a day isn't enough! I go up to three pills on Saturday.
No I haven't had any change in medications. I have been in a flare for about a month and have just slowed downed on the worse case of Lhermittes I've had before. This is not the first time I've experienced these spasms while yawing but the strain when talking or singing is more recent and I'm concerned about spasticity in the upper part of my body being more permanent. A few weeks ago I was having trouble with swallowing which is not new to me either. I stopped taking Bacolfen about a year ago. Maybe I need to start up again. I just remembered, yes I have been taking Provigil these last few days because of my extreme fatigue. Can this have anything to do with it?
Have any of your medications changed during this time?
