Menier's Disease is generally sporadic with handing out the vertigo & some people have an attack which may last under 24 hours but not return for 6 months. Of course this is very variable as with any medical condition.

If you are having vertigo with MS then it can also be very variable. I can only say for me personally it is something I have lived with almost daily for over 3 years. A particular lesion in my brain is located just where the vestibular system is so I have been told my vertigo is from my MS. I have had a lot of testing over the years but it was never felt to be coming from my ears rather my brain.

Menier's Disease can be very disabling to someone but there are treatment options & it is limited to just one system as mentioned by JJ. In MS you can have any part of the CNS affected so you can have a huge host of symptoms & possible disability. It is (as JJ said) like comparing apples & oranges so it's a hard question to answer.

I hate the vertigo I live with but I also hate my ataxia, my weakness in my leg, my double vision, my pain, my tremors & so on. I have known a person with Menier's disease who would have a horrendous attack but they also had many months free of Menier's. Also some people with Menier's disease often taper out with the tinnitus & vertigo as time goes by to eventually manage a lot better. I have heard it can be very difficult at first though. Im sorry I just don't have an answer to your question.

Take Care,

Karry.

Hi and welcome,

Hmmmmm really interesting question but from my perspective, they are totally different medical conditions, Menieres is isolated to the inner ear but as Alex pointed out MS attacks "the brain, optic nerve, and or the spinal cord".......

Theoretically MS could be looked as being, Menieres disease + visual deficits + cognitive deficits + sensory deficits + communication deficits + bladder/bowel/sexual deficits + chronic pain + loss of mobility eg cane/walker/ wheel chair etc etc etc

It's like trying to compare apples with oranges, but without question living with the losses caused by MS would quite understandably be worse.....

Cheers...........JJ

Everyone's disease is different I have friend's who have MS who can only move one finger. I have a fatal cancer but I am living life normally. I am painting the outside of my art studio and going to dog obedience today. I have had MS for over forty years and have been stable. No one can predict. how a disease will go. Meiners's is the inner it can be managed by medication or surgery. MS can attack the brain, optic nerve, and or the spinal cord for that reason I think the overall disease is worse. Brain damage causes balance and ear problems in MS. But if you have an untreatable case of Meniere's it could be bad for you.
