Off to the MS neurologist in two days

Hello to all
I'm hiding in my air conditioned house till fall weather returns, but have an appiontment to see my areas MS specialist in two days and would like to know what he will be doing on the first visit. Why I'm asking is I want to be prepared not like the uroligists visit, but who can be prepared for that.
Any ideas as to what he'll be doing...thanks?

Harry

Proudest Granny,

You happened upon an old post. But, thank you for joining us. If you can, copy and past what you've written here and on the main forum page, hit the green "post a question" button and paste your post there. So we can welcome you properly.

To answer your questions, the needle nerve test you mention is not used for MS that I'm aware of. Also, the spinal tap is not always a general rule to dx either, though it has helped clinch some of our diagnoses including mine.

If the doc is convinced of MS he/she may order this. Some order it as a general rule I've noticed from what our members have experienced here.

If you have trouble reposting your post as a new discussion, just hollar and we'll be glad to help you!
Thanks for joining us,
~Shell

I have been going numb all over my body and my left arm went totally numb during the night over two weeks ago and has never come out of it. I have terrible complicated migraines also that make me paralyzed and blind so I thought it was the migraines doing it but the Dr. thinks it is very possible that I have M S.I go to a Neurologist on the 17th of January to find out for sure.I already had my Brain cat scan and it showed Brain damage from all of the 20+ years of bad migraines and the migraine strokes I have suffered in the past. The migraines have really stolen a lot of my memory from me.What I am wondering about is  when they check for M S does the Dr. do a Spinal Tap and also do they stick needles in your nerves to find out if a person has M S? I know this is what they did with my husband when they tested him for Parkinsons Disease and he said it was pure torture.

Yes, my wife has to drive me , and she does most of the talking or it would take for ever, due to my fumblin mind. We ( Sue ) has put together a list dating back to my early twenties, that also contains all the medical reports, she is great.
This will be my THIRD neuro exam this year, this guy is a MS specialist. I think I'm getting good care but when do they come to a conclusion. The tests I have had contain most of the McDonalds menu plus some of there own versions.

Thanks
Harry

OH, and, go to the Health Pages.  Click on the one for "McDonal Criteria 2005 revised" scroll down to "neurological exam."

Excellent details of a "thorough exam" there.  However, unfortunately, I've never gotten one that thorough.....

Hope your is on Thursday!

Hi Harry,

The doc should be doing a full Neurological exam.  Do you have your symptom list together so you can tell him or her what has been going on?  Anyone going with you?

Shelly
