What exact cleansing have you used pleased would love to try
I have just been diagnosed with ON. What natural remedies is everybody taking? I live in Nova Scotia.
are there any proven treatments for optic neuritis
hi mary,
i currently have optic neuritis i woke up may 5th 2010 and could not see out of my left eye..mri showed 3 brain lesions and i have a diagnosis of clinically isolated syndrome. so far i have done to rounds of iv followed by oral steroids and have had no signifigant improvement..i am nervous that it may never return to normal function.
Any suggestions you have for me will be greatly appreciated..thx :)
I hope they can figure out whats wrong soon. I have had the same experience years ago, it felt as though I was looking through a dirty window, I remember trying to put my makeup on my face and it was really difficult and I couldnt recognize my face in the mirror. These episodes would last days or hours. One time I had tunnel vision that lasted for about one year, steroids did not help that symptom, and later after doing a lot of alternative treatments, the tunnel vision went away and that was a relief because I had to quit driving at the time. I no longer have any vision problems. I hope your vision gets better soon.

Hi twopack,
I have used many different supplements, but it seems what helped my ms condition overall the most is the detoxifying treatments. I did treatments to cleanse my body of toxins, including fungus, bacteria, viruses, heavy metals and parasites. It seems like when I did treatments to clean out my intestines is when my vision seemed to improve the most, that topped with an herbal tea I drank that is supposed to help cleanse a diseased body.

I have gone legally blind in one eye due to ON. Steroids helped a little bit. But my opthamologist doesn't think my vision will return since it's been so long, going on six months now. I can only basically make out shapes, and it's like looking through a very dirty window.
I have not been dx with MS or NMo, I do not meet the criteria for either diagnostically. So I will take the drugs for NMo and see if symptoms subside and if they don't try the MS drugs and if they work go from there. I do not know what I shall do if neither work.
Although I due still have pain in my bad eye when I move it which could mean even after so long my optic nerve is still inflammed, I hold on to that glimmer of hope.
What a wonderful recovery you've had. What kind of supplements have you used?

HI Michelle,
Thanks for your post. Having had more than 7 optic neuritis attacks, I know they can be scary, especially since the doctors told me I have a chance of going blind in both eyes since I have had attacks in both eyes already. Fortunately I no longer have any vision problems, dont even wear glasses, I have 20/20 vision and my vision is better now than it was back in 2003 where my ms was at its worse. I am fortunate that my ms is improving without use of any "crab" drugs.

Hi and thanks for bumping me up :)
Yes my friend has had ms for 3 years now. I have had ms since 1999 and have had many optic neuritis attacks but my vision is now 20/20 and have not had vision problems again for more than a year. I think the alternative remedies I used helped me more than anything else. At one point I had tunnel vision, blurry vision and sometimes double vision, even had to quit driving for awhile. I was curious to hear other peoples stories to see what may have helped others.

I have had 2 bouts of ON. My left eye resolved completely, meaning my vision is back to 20/20 and I have a normal visual field. I had no steroids at the time.
My right eye, again with no steroids, is still about 20/30, and I have central scotomas in that eye. (black "holes" in my vision). I am happy with 20/30 vision, just really hope I don't get ON again in that eye.
I do believe ON improves the "same" with or without steroids, just can be "quicker" with steroids. I was also told after 6 months the vision is stable, although my neuro-ophth. told me it could be up to a year.
I wish your friend good luck,
Michelle
I've never had ON, but I did notice your question going to the bottom of the page, so I'll "bump it" to the top, so others will get a chance to see it again.
Everything I've read about ON, is that steriods is one of the most common treatments. The things is though, steriods will help you get over the ON a little faster by bring down the inflamation, but it doesn't correct damage. Once the damage occurs, it's there.
Does your friend have MS too?
