Weak feet are improving (Yes, I'm happy, but I want to know why?)

I can now move my feet up and down. This has been slowly improving for many months since I lost all movement in the beginning of July. The up movement is better than down since they are in a more down position than normal, but it is a very jerky/shaky movement and doesn't happen instantly, I have to think about it, and sometimes my toes jerk instead of my feet moving. I've notived that if I don't think about it and my foot is itchy and it moves involuntary the movement is smooth vs. my trying to move the foot and have it jerk all over. Odd. However, I'm happy for the improvement, back in the summer I couldn't move anything but my twitch the toes when I tried to move my feet.

I'm wondering why they improved? My mom's theory is that the AFO's retrained my brain's paths, or that the months of PT in sept. oct, and Nov. helped, as they worked on stregnthening my upper thighs and making me "think" about moving me feet 60 times a day, even if there wasn't visible movement.

I'm thinking that I'm in remission from whatever disease I'm having, or that I had an attack of some sorts and am healing. What's your thoughts?

Thought I'd share the progress.

Yes, it's been nice, slow and nice! I think my dad was hoping for me to wake up one day and be normal.... and I was expecting to never be the same and we are finding that it's happening sorta in between....

Jenn- I've got the exericse for the growing neurons and the painting and music for the gorwing synapses so that sounds good to me!! :)

Happy christmas!!

Neurological damage does heal!  They tell you that, but you won't believe it until a symptom that you've been having goes away.

I think that the extra mobility helped you retrain your brain, so maybe we can blame it on the AFOs - who knows?  Exercise grows neurons, and activity (painting, game playing, music)  helps grow synapses between the neurons so they'll stick around.

That's great Sunny!  Don't know why, but I'm really happy for you.  Like Janette says, maybe Santa brought your gift early!!!

Hope it keeps improving, take care, and have a Merry Christmas.

Ooo... yes, I'm smiling, a very big happy smile. :)  I wanted to wait until I knew this wasn't a freak thing that it was permanent, and I've been slowly able to move it more and more the past month.....And I thought I'd pass along the smiles!
