Oh yeah, the drunken walk thing. nothing like try to walk a straight path and do the zig zag instead. I can laugh about it most the time now.

I have ataxia now so am always side stepping left or right and grabbing for chairs when trying to stand still. I've become a wall huger, standing with my back on the wall because even with my cane I'm unsteady. Why does standing in place have to tire one out so much?

I am thankful I can still walk and stand, even if it looks like I'm drunk. I know I'm not.

Hey guys nice to see some humour..It ***** and its frustrating..but It can be funny, especially when grocery shopping.I havent had a drink or even drinks to be drunk in a loong time..I would hate to know what will happen to me when or if I actually drink.. And Selma I will be seeing a new doctor shortly..but I have had a lot of blood work done and everything has come back just fine except for a high CRP .

Me too, i don't walk straight a lot of times and do the leaning thing too.  Sometimes you want to say to people that you are not drunk.

Since I had the huge vertigo attack 7 years ago, I have been dizzzy most of the time and off balance.  But I must say it has improved and my balance is better too...not gone, but better.

It can be very funny at times..

hugs, meg

I'm glad you brought this up.  The leaning walk has been happening to me for about a month now.  It seems to happen for a day or two and then get better.  It is a strange symptom.  Attempting to go straight yet going to the right etc.

Maybe we should offset the leaning by walking a different direction.:-)

take care,
Lois

I too am a Member of the MS WALK (LOl) frequently!
It's actually quite funny sometimes because I go off somewhere and leave
Diva-Grace (yes my cane has a name :0) in the car because I am so proud
that I am walking so well and then out of no where, I do the MS Drunk Walk...

OR, I will be standing still talking to someone and all of a sudden ......I start to tip...and always to the right!  So, I have figured out that Diva-Grace is quite handy when I am out either for walking or to steady myself as I am standing....

Have A Nice Weekend.

Oh, yeah, that was one of the presenting factors in my latest relapse, First I would veer to the right, then the left. I had to use a cane all the time. It has been six weeks and I am now walking pretty well in the house without the cane. I go for about a 2 mile walk several times a week and try not to use the cane for short periods and I am doing much better. Had a really good day, and over did, and the next day I had to be more careful. My neuro says that people with ataxia (difficulty walking) have the most problem turning. Yep. I hurried to answer the phone the other day, put it down, turned around and had to grab for the chair. OOPS! I can't walk and look over my shoulder or I am back to the drunk pirate walk. I say pirate because I had to wear a patch for double vision and I still have a little issue with my right eye. Long story just to say yes, I have and am experiencing that!

I just finished a course of steroids for a suspected MS attack in the form of vertigo. I'm mostly back to normal, but I'll do the drunk walk if I get too tired or if I get overheated.

This is my first suspected attack.

I had several months of not being able to walk straight.  Sometimes I would be 45° off from the direction I chose.  I was always running into walls and corners.

Doctor told me it was because of the lesion in my cerebellum.

HI...this can happen for several reasons other than having some condition....u may want to see ur dr and have some blood labs done...check vitamin and mineral levels as they can play a role in feeling like this.'

Good luck
