I Hear ya! I detest the word and hink it should be banned or renamed in the medical books. Its more like mental paralisis (sp). Or like mental Blindness. We know what needs to be done and how to do it well, but we just cant seem to do it. I see mail and clutter al around and its driving me insane, but i just cant conquer it. even if i get started, it seems to grow. Eventually I just give up. Then one day a light comes on an I am a tornado wisking around getting things in order. It may last a day or 2. Then I am in bed for another day or 2 and it starts all over.  Um, I hope thats what you mean. Anyway I just had to say I am frustrated too.

If you are wondering about how common depression is with MS, please see this Health Page

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Multiple-Sclerosis/Depression-and-MS/show/752?cid=36

I know you are new here, so maybe you haven't looked at the Health Pages in general. They're a great resource.

Bairdy, there's another HP about MS and emotions. Switching to emotional extremes in a short time is called the pseudo-bulbar effect, and is also quite common. It's caused by a lesion or lesions in the part of the brain regulating emotions.

MS can cause depression in two ways. First it can alter the brain. The damage or inflammation of the gray matter can cause a mood disorder. Also there is situational depression from having MS. Eating right and exercising if you can is important. Seeking out help. You might need antidepressants or the problem could be sleep related. Mine was both sleep related and and situational. I knew I needed help. I go to sleep and wake up at the same time, got help with pain so I could fall asleep. I have lost weight and exercise which helps me.

I sought out a Doctor for the ddepression. I also got a counselor who specializes in Chronic Illness. We do hypnosis which has helped. I can put myself to sleep or de stress when needed. I also have someone to talk things through with.

Depression does not like to be treated. It is inertia. A body at rest stays at rest a body in motion stays in motion. For me I have to keep moving or busy to keep out of it. Distraction is the best thing for me.

I am depression free these days.

jerseyg,

I am not sure about what you are asking. You having a real problem with depression? If so and you are aware that it is becoming a problem then you really need to talk to your doctor, there are meds out there that can help tremendously.

I am not sure if this is what you were talking about or if I am just not reading right but I hope it helps.
