Aahh, that old pruritis blues! It's really a paresthesia.  I get a lot of severe itching on my scalp, especially after a shower.  My dermatologist says there's nothing wrong with my skin up there.  My ears itch, too, periodically.  I use a cold, wet cloth compress to "cool" the itch. When that doesn't work, I just use sheer will power.  Tough, but do-able.

Unmyelinated nerve fibers for itch and pain both originate in the skin; however, information for them is conveyed centrally in two distinct systems that both use the same nerve bundle and spinothalamic tract. (this sentence lifted from Wikipedia).

Wishing you relief...

Hello,
I have exactly the same thing in my right ear and I too scratch it till it bleeds then I have flaking skin due to the bleeding it's a vicious circle. It ia on the same side as the spasm I get around my eye.

I have to admit I have never really connected it to my neurological issues ( I have no Dx yet) but I can see where your comming from.

I'm afraid I no idea how to sort out the problem, but you are not alone.

My ear itches like crazy!  But it's on the side of my head that's numb so I'm pretty sure its a paresthesia.  I look like a silly dog when I try to get relief!  The cold cloth would probably look more respectable!

Thanks for that explanation Gg.  I get the itch from time to time too but not usually in my ear canals.  What I have had there recently is a small but persistant amount of dry crud.  I'm seriously wondering if this might be psoriasis.
