leg going out

Hi. My sister has recently been diagnosed with MS. Since then we have found out that my paternal grandmother, great grandma and uncle all have been diagnosed with MS.  Now I am wondering if I have it.

I am 27years old and my legs give out on me and this has been happening to me since I was a teenager.  It happens one leg at a time and I have fallen down several times because of it.  I have no pain or tingling when it happens.  My legs go out at least twice a week. Sometimes nothing happens for a week or two. Does this sound at all like the weak and unbalanced effects involved in MS?

I am also scared to tell my doctor because I am scared if I am diagnosed with it I could be denied or made to pay more for health or life insurance in the future.  I am a junior in college and right now and I am on state assistance medical plan.

It sounds like it could be MS. With all the different symptoms, it is hard to diagnose. Welcome to the forum. Are you having any memory problems? Bladder issues? These are common in MS. I was diagnosed back in May, so am new to it myself. We are all her, when you need to talk. Karina

HI Mass, haven't seen here before so welcome to the forum.  I'm currently under investigation for MS and have now been referred to a specialist. At first I was totally terrified with the thought of MS but you are in the right place on this forum. There are some great people here, many with MS, many like me in limbo awaiting diagnosis but posting on here has really help me to understand and deal with my situation.

I know just how scarey it can be but may be the doctor will be able to even put your mind at rest and give you the clarity and answers you need.  I am certainly no expert on the subject of ms but for me sometimes the not knowing is worse than the knowing.  I live in the UK so I am unfamiliar with how dr appointments and referrals take place in the USA but I would try and get an appointment, it may be a great opportunity to talk things through.

How is your sister doing?  Have you spoken to her....could you?

As I said before, this forum has been such a support to me.  You are surrounded by friends here and your not alone.

Look after yourself and get in contact whenever you need to talk.

Take care
