I have also been having hip pain for some months now. It is on the left side and from what I have read is not sciatic nerve pain. It is on the side and front of the hip. Over the summer the pain was all the way to the top of my foot. Now it is isolated to my hip, but unfortunately involves my lower back as well. I went to a neurologist, as I had new headaches that radiated from my neck up my left side and in my left hip, to the point where I could not sleep. After several days of no sleep, I would develop a migraine on my right side- where I have always had migraines. She put me on a beta blocker, which did nothing to relieve the left side pain and diagnosed me with cervical radiculopathy due to protruding discs in my C5-6. She referred me to physical therapy which my insurance does not cover. A subsequent call to her office did not result in any alternative.
Here's the kicker. I was sent for a MRI of my brain w/wo contrast and my cervical spine, hence the discovery of the discs. I asked about my brain MRI and she said it was fine. I asked the receptionist for a copy of the report and that's when I read that I had diffuse 1mm abnormal signal on my T2 and flair in my frontal lobes, mostly left side and a 3mm lesion in my posterior parietal lobe-left side as well as some hyperintensity in my right as well, but not as much as the left. There was no evidence on enhanced of demyelianation.Because of my age 38,the report suggested early MS and reccomended clinical correlation. If the neuro had told me of the results and her reason for disregarding them, I may have taken her at her word, but I feel she was dismissive of me. I had mono at 15 and have had persistent pins and needles in hands and feet for months. I also have had isolated incidence of bowel incontinence -once in my sleep and persistent bladder incontinence. I am cronically tired and some days cannot stand for more than a few minutes without severe pain across my hips. My primary gave me muscle relaxants and an anti inflammatory and this has relieved the head pain, but has done nothing for the hip/back pain. I am getting a second opinion, but I have been made to feel as if I am a hypochondriac or worse a scofflaw. This is infuriating to me as I have worked since I was 15, sometimes three jobs, it is only now that I seem to be unable to work. The idea that I may have MS terrifies me, but the thought that I will goe undiagnosed because of erroneous supposition is even worse. Anyone have any thoughts?
Welcome to the forum and if I may I would like to give you a bit of advice...
You are seeing your doctor due to your medical problems and that is what the doctor is being paid to look after...if we all decided that we didn't want to bother our doctor's, they would be awfully bored before long!
You need to speak to the doctor about the pain in your hip because more than likely the doctor will be able to give you something that will take that nasty pain right away and leave you feeling much better!
When are you expecting to get back the results from the MRI with contrast? We would be very interested in what the doctor comes up with for you and we want you to know that we are here to support you and help you in any way we can! There is a wonderful group of people on this forum and if you have a possible MS diagnosis looming on the horizon we can be of quite a bit of strength for you to lean on should you need us!
If you feel the need to rant, rave, cry or laugh, we are here 100%, 24/7 ok? Please let us know what your results are and perhaps if you don't get a diagnosis from your doctor we may be able to help you with some other steps you might be able to take to find out what the symptoms are all about.
Lots of Hugs,
Rena

Hello and welcome Bluelily. I hope you find some answers from your MRI. What items are making the doctor lean toward MS?
I would definitely tell your doctor about any pains you are having.
Great to have you with us
Jazzy
Bother your doctor! That's what he is for. You may be able to get some muscle relaxants to help. Please advise your doctor. If you are in the process of being diagnoses, you need to keep a timeline and report any new symptoms to your dr. It's important. Hope this helps
