question about visual disturbances

haven't posted in a while, seems like a lot of new posters since the last time I have been on, on that note hello..and to you Quix...I know I keep saying I am going to email you about the med school thing but things have been so hectec here, I dont know about the rest of you but I live in south east VA and the heat has been miserable, even being in the pool is not refrehing, its horrible to be a prisoner in your own home...yesterday the heat index was 110 I think, even the beaches are empthy and now our air conditioner upstairs feels like its broken...five minutes outdoors and I feel like my body tu7rns into jello...Well anyway got my insurance approval so I will be having my SEPs, VEP and LP at MCV hopefully soon and am going to be seeing a neuropsych and a rheumy but my question is for anyone who has this oscillopsia, which I can find very little about on the internet, it has become a very concerning sympton for me, sometimes is very violent wildly vibrating environment with no eye movement, its like being in  aan earthquake but not feeling it, fortunately it  usually happens when I am sitting because i could not imagine what would happen if it happened while I was walking or heaven forbid driving (although I rarely drive anymore anyway)-could someone give many any good explaination of this or good site i could go to for info, why does it happen and how can this be perceived by my brain with no eye movement...it is not a feeling like the room is spinning, it in not dizziness...it is a like watching a paint can mixer...or rather sitting inside one but floating in the middle????

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for your post.  That also puts a name to what I am experiencing from time to time too.

Oscillopsia - that was my first noticeable symptom and indication that there might be something not quite right going on with me.  Have had two major episodes and recently much more frequent minor ones.

As you said, it feels  just like my visual field is shaking up and down.... fortunately has only ever been the outside part of my visual field....  I can also see/feel it sometimes when I shut my eyes..... Superweird!  No answers for me yet.  My VEP was 'abnormal' but the dr. didn't consider that a problem - said it can happen for lot's of reasons... and nothing to worry about... All my other neuro testing was normal.

Good luck for all the testing.  I hope you get some answers.

Sally

Hi there! Sounds like the heat is sucking all your energy. That must be hard living in such hot weather. I found a website for you to look at. You can also go to ask.com and type in oscillopsia. Never heard of it before myself, but am new to MS. The website is www.pneuro.com/publications/dizzy/index.html. Not sure if have to type all that. If type in word at ask.com, it will pull up that website and more on it. Hope this helps ya. Karina
