Too many medications!

My doctor just gave me a script for Balcafon for spasms in my hand and leg.  I am now up to 6 prescriptions.  Five daily medications.  Three of those are MS related meds and my Avonex is once a week.

Is it normal to be on a lot of meds when you have MS?

I'm on Baclofen for some time now and it has been a lifesaver for me...unfortunately, my Copaxone and i should mention i am in a drug study (which while it has slowed and even shrank most of my lesions  while on the standard FDA 20mg approved dosage) now that i have moved up to the experimental OPEN label side for 1 year of 40mg i am having extreme muscle spasms...which for some people could have have happened on 20mg. So the Baclofen hasnt been enough and they added Klonopin to it and that has made me into a total webble....mom says i look and act drunk ON and OFF my meds now.  I also take Neurontin and Topamax for the pain too.  And i think there's another but my mind isnt all it should be at the moment....i am skipping my meds for a bit this am....i know i know but i HAVE to drive my kid a couple miles to the dr for Xrays and such (stupid teenager who got into BAD fight and is really banged up...dr opens at 8 and he refused ER and it really wasnt bad enough on surface for ER so i said okay to outpatient non-ER at 8am).  So i will be 2 hours late on my meds i guess....lucky me!

So dont worry if you have 5 or 6 or 7 meds....if doc thinks you need them and them dont make you feel too weird...well then it's kool.  What you are looking for is quality of life right?

I take Baclofen too, 4X daily for spasms, and another med 3X daily for myoclonus. In all, I now take 8 pills in the morning, 2 at lunch, 2 at dinner, and 5 at night, plus an inhaled asthma maintenance med and some PRN's... and a partridge in a pear tree, lol!   In short, 6 pills is not too bad. I don't even have a Dx. They're only treating symptoms. I have ON as well, but its not being treated. I really hate pills!

The funny thing is that prior to whatever this is that I have starting 1 year and a half ago, I took thyroid med and PRN allergy meds. All these other things have been found during the quest for what's wrong with Lisa. Pretty goofy, huh?

I hope you feel better and that the Baclofen is effective for you. Unfortunately, pills are now going to be officially part of you life - you do get used to it though.

Be well

I'm glad that at least, the drugs are helping you feel better!   If only the DMDs would treat the symptoms too!

I can imagine it's hard dealing with the side effects of all the meds.

Did you start Lexapro?  I believe it was you that was posting about it.  If so, how is it working for you?

Take care, Pat :)

Hello slightlybroken --   funny name! :-)

My MS doctor is starting me on a small dose.  I have not picked it up from the pharmacy yet.

Last year at this time I was only on 2 prescription medications.  I have tripled that amount in the past few months.

I do feel better over all I have to admit.  The side effects take some time to get past though.  At least she is adding things one at a time.  I am sure that has helped.

As I have gone through the process of being diagnosed and started treatment it has been amazing how so much of the misery I have been in is MS related and there is a PILL for it!!

I have always said maybe I just needed a PILL!! HA...guess I got more than I bargained for didn't I?  :(

Hi!

I would have to yes that it's pretty normal to have many medications, especially when you are having lots of symptoms. They have one pill to help for this and one pill to help with that. It's hard to keep track.

I'm not even DX and I'm on 5 perscriptions. I'm on Baclofen too. I hope it helps you. It helped me but it took a couple of weeks for me to feel the effect.  Are they gradually going to start you on it? It might make you tired but it has helped me a great deal even though I still have problems with the really bad muscle spasms and it doesn't help with those sometimes.

Take Care :)
