Thank you all for your posts, Jenn, to answer your questions, the ultrasound was something unrelated to MS, but I have lumps on the backs of my knees and the ligaments and tendoms, and I am very concerned about them. I think they are afftecting the way I walk, as well as the MS too, so, we are trying to get everyihing looked at. But, we are having some unforturnatie luck.
I could not take the Tizanidine, it disagreed with me, but I do thjat the Baclofen and Flerxeril and it does seem to jhelp some says.
Just my two cents on the MS hug, esophageal spasms, and rib pain.
I have lesions in my back - upper and lower. I've had esophageal spasms for some time. It wasn't until my MS diagnosis that I began to connect the two problems. Sometimes my esophageal spasm will turn into a painful rib spasm. Sometimes it's the muscles around the bottoms of the shoulder blades. It all seems to center around that lesion in the spine, so I have no doubt that they're connected.
Candy, do you know why you're getting an ultrasound? That doesn't sound like a typical test for MS - is it supposed to check for something else?
Typically I treat any kind of painful spasm with muscle relaxers. I take 60 mg of Baclofen a day, so if I have a spasm that's bad enough to get through the Baclofen, I take a Flexaril. I also have Tizanidine, which is actually pretty effective - sometimes more effective than the flexaril. I guess it depends on the cause of the spasm.
When I have diaphragm spasms it feels like I am going to stop breathing and die. The Neurologist and pain doctor have said they are myoclonic spasms and that they can be very painful where ever they are in the body. I have finally found a cocktail through the pain doctor which so far has not brought them on like they used to. I also have to keep from getting too tired.

Hi again,
I just did a search on esophageal spasms. It sounds like this may be what you're looking for. It says the pain can radiate into other areas of the body.

I can't say I've had that particular problem. The only time my ability to breathe is threatened, is when I get a spasm in my esophagus. Excruciating. Sometimes it seems to tighten up in my throat, and sometimes in my rib area. I don't think it's even related to the "hug".
Have you called your doctor about this? It might be a good idea...
Take care,
Tammy
Candy, I can't personally relate to your problems - my MS hug problems have been different. I am so sorry you have such pain and wish I had some advice, but I don't.
Hang in there -the 30th will be here soon.
