Good thing I've got that appointment tomorrow...

Called the neurologist early this week because my right leg has been really weak for several days now - and the left leg seems to be getting worse too.

Woke up this morning and one of my old symptoms was back - my left foot feels like somebody's been beating on the bottom of it with a baseball bat.  Hurts to walk on it, and my right leg is weak, so it's double trouble!

I'm pretty sure the pain is spasticity.  The muscles on the bottom of my left foot are probably either spastic or going into spasms.  I took a muscle relaxer which helped a little, but the pain is coming back.

All that and I have to say that this is much better than cog fog.  Not being able to think is much scarier than not being able to walk.

I've been taking Flexaril (because my neuro thought that Baclofen would be too expensive) and it dulls the pain, but doesn't stop it completely.  Especially those chest/side stitch cramps.  So when I heard that Baclofen was on the $4 list at Walmart, I said "well, heck!"  and got a prescription from the doc for it.

Udkas - I'm not sure when the MRI will happen.  I gave the nurse a list of clinics in the area with 3T MRI machines, but I didn't know whether any of them took Aetna.  That would really s*ck if they didn't.  So she's going to research them a little and let me know next week.

RedFlame - oddly enough, I'm not normally depressed or discouraged.  I just muddle on through.  It is a downer to suddenly have stuff not working right...  but the good news is that the leg is much better today.  The left foot still hurts, but the Flexaril is taking the edge off, at least.

So I guess that was a flare last week.  Sometimes it's hard to know you're in a flare until you get out of it.

I've been on Flexaril and Baclofen, and at least for me, the Baclofen is soooooooo much better for spasticity. (Plus the Flexeril makes me feel sick)  Now, I can't even imagine going without the Baclofen. A couple times I tried to ween myself off to see if I still had the spasticity, and before I got down to zero, I could already feel the severe pain in my leg again.

Good luck with it  :-)

I was thinking about you todayI'm glad that you will get your MRI on a 3T.

Are you and your husband discouraged about your illness?  DId the neuro order some other tests like a cardiac panel and things like that.  It's good to rule all of that out of course.

You are making it through.  You and I both had neuro appointments today.  I don't know about you but I am exhausted.

Take some baclofen or flexeril and cuddle with your hubby.

Be good to you----Red

Hi Jen,
Hugs across the water, thinking of you, I hope the Baclofen helps with the spasms, I have found this drug useful in the past.

Keep us posted, not much fun having a relapse.  When do you have your MRI?

Take care,
Cheers,
Udkas.

Just back from the neuro!

I'm getting scheduled for a 3T brain and spine MRI - something I've been needing for a while.

Hubby asked "What's the point?"  And I have to admit that I'm wondering that myself, but I still want to know.  I can track all the symptoms and know what's going on, but seeing it on the MRI is a little different.  That way I know it's MS and not something else - like my shortness of breath.

I've also gotten a scrip for Baclofen, which I'm hoping will be more effective than the Flexaril.  Flexaril brings the cramping and spasticity down to a dull roar most of the time, but when it's really bad, it seems like it's not doing anything.

Double Ouch!!  I know that feeling well, baseball bat beating one of your limbs. Horrible pain for sure.  Let us know how the neuro appointment goes tomorrow and if he is able to help sort it out especially before the weekend sets in.

Ouch! Sounds like you are in a very painful relapse. On the bright side, as you had mentioned, at least it's not cog fog. Let us know what the doc says. Hope the pain eases up soon.
