nighttime pain?

I have ms diagnosed in 2000. For quite some time I.have difficulty sleeping due to.a sort.of.pain in my legs, hips and often in my shoulders. The only way to.describe it is it feels.like it needs to be stretched on a pulley and I can't lay still. The only thing I have found to help.my.hip pain is sit Indian style.and.lean forward and make it stretch hard. Same thing with shoulders. It doesn't stop it but hurts good if u know what I mean. I do have it in daytime to a degree but not as bad. Now I am getting this in arches of feet at night and when I walk. My neurologist just said its part of ms when I mentioned it. Thats fine but does anyone know what it is called and if theres anything thst helps it? I would like to.get sleep and am sure dh wshes I would lay still so he could rest better.:)

Not sure if this will help you are all but I know that many people sleep in recliners to help ease the pain, this way they are not lying flat. I have the hip and lower back pain myself. I take my muscle relaxers but I do find laying flat makes it much worse.

Hope this helps!! :)

Yes I have had the mris and.have lesions. Can't remember where exactly. It concerns me.as I have severe osteoporosis from the steroids they gave me. I have been warned to be careful of pulling on my spine like I.do because of.the thin bones but is only relief I can get. My pcp also said.he felt it was spasticity. I will be seeing my.neurologist soon so will ask about baclofen.

Sure, it's part of MS!  But there's medications for that problem - you don't have to suffer through it.

What you're describing sounds like my spasticity.  I get the same tightness in my hips, and my lower back too.  When it starts acting up, there's nothing I can do but take my medication and hope it goes away.

For spasticity, they usually prescribe Baclofen, which is a spinal muscle relaxer.  That usually does the trick for me, but if I start having pain on top of that, I also take Flexaril, which is just your run of the mill muscle relaxer.

It sounds like you have lesions in your spine.  Usually you'll have numbness in your back at the level of the lesion.  Have you ever had a thoracic or cervical spine MRI?

I would call the neuro's office and explain that while your pain is all part of MS, you want him to treat the symptom as quickly as possible.  Tell him you  are not willing to lose a night's sleep as you are as busy as him.  If he won't address it, see your PP.  If neither will offer help, find some real physicians.  Both of these would be a joke.
