Headache,dizziness, vision trouble

I am a 30 year old healthy female.  Lately I have been having these dizzy feelings where I just feel off a little.  I also am having pain and pressure in my ears. They are accompanied by headaches and I have been having vision trouble.  I can see everything OK but I feel as if my eyes are crossing which causes my head to hurt more.  I have beento the eye doctor recently and nothing has changed.  I have been to the doctor for blood work because I was having numbness/tingling in face and hands.  Everything cam out negative.  Could you tell me if there is a specialist I should see and what the problem could be?  It is just an unsettling feeling and the headaches can be annoying.

HI!  I was just diagnosed with POTS type 1 [Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS)]this last year.  Your symptoms and experience sound similar to mine.  You said, "I started experiencing feelings of pressure in my head, dizziness, and inability to focus & concentrate on things...I also ALWAYS have a dull headache & sometimes my heart beats heavily and I have shortness of breath...I have even gone to the ER on two occassions for this. I had an MRI (everything was "fine")and bloodwork (everything was fine with that also)."

I had gone to the Hospital because I had recently had stroke like symptoms and was developing extreme dizziness.  All my tests came back normal for the most part.  But the neurologist I went to thought to check my blood pressure.  And thought I fit the bill for POTS. POTS is not well known yet.  I was lucky that I went to a neurologist who was familiar with POTS.  He started me on medicine that helped a lot.  My Neurologist had me record my blood pressure standing, sitting, and laying flat.  You might do that also and keep a record of it for a while and then show your doctor and ask to see a Neurologist.  "POTS is defined by excessive heart rate increments upon upright posture. A person with POTS will experience heart rates that increase 30 beats or more per minute upon standing and/or increase to 120 beats or more per minute upon standing" (Grubb, 2000).  You might also check out the Dysautonomia Information network  (www.dinet.org) I have found it to be very help full.  It was nice to hear others similar experience to mine.  I didn't feel as alone anymore.

Hang in there!!

Hello,
My 14-y.o. daughter has been sick for three months now...had to remove her from school and start homeschooling due to the many episodes she was having.  Her Symptoms are identical to the symptoms posted above, by "GALEN 124712", on March 4th, 2006.  We have done MRI's, CT's, EEG's, ultrasounds, heart tests of all types, and way too many blood tests to count, WITH ALL TESTS COMING back "NORMAL!!"  FRUSTRATED AND SAD FOR MY DAUGHTER??  YES!!  (not to mention financial strain!!!)  Finally, i took it into my own hands, and scoured the internet for HOURS, typing in my daughter's symptoms in different orders, leaving some out sometimes, and adding more in at other times.  What I found, which listed EVERY SINGLE SYMPTOM MY DAUGHTER WAS HAVING, was "POTS SYNDROME", Just as the woman above describes.  I told my doctor about what I had found, and she immediately ordered a "TILT TABLE TEST."  Sure enough, it WAS Pots Syndrome.  I cannot tell you all how relieved we were to FINALLY HAVE AN ANSWER!!!!  Moral of the story?  GO GET A TILT TABLE TEST!!  A  cardiologist has to see the patient before they can perform the test.  Also, keep in mind that the TILT TABLE TEST does not test strictly for POTS, so even if there is an alternate diagnosis, the TILT TABLE TEST will give clues to to point to that diagnosis.  HOPE THIS HELPS SOME OF YOU!!!!  :~)

Iam only 29 years old (female). No children, single, college grad and have worked out since the age of 18. In the past, the only problems I have had with my health were a few yeast infections, gastrointestinal complications with constipation that led to me getting a sphincterotomy because of anal fishers, anxiety depression and panic disorders which I was given medications for, and last I had laser eye surgery in both eyes for glaucoma high eye pressure 7 months ago. However, one day in March 2011 while working out on an elliptical machine, I developed a sudden sharp headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, numbness, twitches, jerking, feelings of being electrically shocked which makes me jump and gasp for air, chest tightness as if iam being chocked, very disoriented, slurred speech and visio, all with a sensation that I was in a whole nother world, like I had been drinking, or as if I was smoking some types of drugs. So of course it got worse everytime I began to panic so at times I was sure I was going to pass out and die. As I Hav mentioned earlier, I have been treated for panic and anxiety I know exactly what they both feel like for I have already been seen and monitores for those conditions. Panic and anxiety attacks are much different from a lot of the above symptoms. I know my body and I know that doctors don't take their job seriously which results in a lot of added health issues. These were no panic and anxiety attacks. I was to weak to even think and seek help but I did make an appointment with a doctor within few 2 days of the onset of the horrific symptoms, after visiting an ER 3x that month. Luckily each time at the ER I had the same doctor so he began to take me seriously quit bit. He said he couldn't find anything and that his tests were limited and suggested that I followed rushed my appointment with my clinic to a sooner date asap and start testing immediately. However, he ended up giving me pain meds for pain and then suggested that I was having esophegal spasms which was causing the shortness of breath. He said it is caused by acid so he also put me on prilosec.  He ran 2 cat scans of my brain while there and they claimedl it was nothing, they did blood work, nothing again and sent me home as always. So finally while seeing my clinic they have refered me to have multiple tests done which includes an ecocardiogram, nuclear stress test, pulominary function test, barrium swallow test, mammogram, eye exam, allergy test, and multiple urine and blood test were ran. They also claim that they found Nothing. They changed my anxiety and panic meds, they gave me allergy meds, told me to continue prilosec, gaveme blood pressure meds for my rapid pulse hyperventalation and headaches, they tried me with several vertigo meds and more. None of those meds work. Now my symtoms have went from every other hour to 24/7 since the past week of August 1 2011. My next follow up appointmet is scheduled for the 15th but I called in today and they boosted it to tommorrow to come in or else I am sure I will become ill enough to visit the ER again at any time now....My thoughts goes out to everyone on this blog for you are not alone. I have survived through prayer only so I believe. No one I have come in contact with takes me seriously and keeps saying that you are not going to die your just stressed as always. Well the way we all feel is probably worse than dying itself and all we want to know is what's wrong with us and what can we do to improve ourselves if doctors proclaim that we lack any major health problems. We need to be fixed! Anyone who reads my post please feel free to contact me via email and we can discuss anything you want because I am in desperated need of help or any type of support and understanding. Maybe it will atleast help with the anxiety dimension of this until we figure out exactly why we feel and are the way we if if we are deemed healthy. So please email me at latoria.***@**** for more insight or if you have any information that you would like to share. I am reaching out because I notice that on these blogs, it is hard to stay in contact so whomever, old bloggers or new bloggers who post after me email me email me email me. Until next time, take care and goodluck and may your savior bless you with a solution! MsLong

I am considering ditching them all as I hoped to get someone capable of helping me after all these yrs.but get perscribed tons of crud.

I am 29 and have the same symptoms as posted. The symptoms have been getting worse over time. I wake up feeling fine, but after taking a shower and getting ready to go to work, I suddenly feel ill. My head starts pounding, my vison gets blurred, i feel nausea and sometimes vomit.I always feel thirsty and sometimes cough for no reason.I get dizzy and have an "unreal" sensation. I am not pregnent so that ruled out morning sickness. I get tingling sensations in my feet and have been fighting bouts of diarrhea. As the day goes on, I start to feel better, but still have an upset tummy and a dull pain in my head, usually on the left side. I get sharp pains in either my feet, fingers and ears. Blood test have come back negative.
I thought it may have something to do with the consumtion if Aspertame and an researching to see if stoping the use of this will minimize the symptoms.

I do have experience with Pseudotumor Cerebri.
I was originally diagnossed with PTC in 1994 when I was 24. The Spinal Tap showed that my Cerebrial-Spinal Fluid Pressure (CSF) was 54 cm of water. I was having total vision loss "blackouts" in my right eye. I weighed about 240 lbs and I did have some headaches, but they weren't too bad at the time. I had the surgery called Optic Nerve Sheath (Decompression)Fenstration and my symptoms seemed to disappear. They said I was all better and for years I never thought twice about it.
Until last summer. There were several weeks when it was like 90* even at night.  I seriously thought my brain was frying. I was so hot and dizzy and so uncomfortable, I landed in the ER twice. I had the most intense headache of my life and it lasted 2 soild months (and so did my period-which never happens.) It didn't take long for me to remember what that kind of headache felt like, I just had to find a doctor that would believe me and give me a spinal tap. And I did. My CSF was 43 cm in Sept 2005.
This time it is so much different. This time it is really bringing me down. I am 35 now and I weigh 350 lbs.  I am a single mom and I am having trouble doing my daily tasks like laundry, grocery shopping, house cleaning. I had to take a semester off from school and take a medical leave of absence from my job.
Since Sept 2005 I have been diagnosed (again) with PTC, Diabeties and Sleep Apnea. Also, I have been experiencing problems breathing and the doctors can't seem to figure out why. They have taken X-rays, EKG, Nuclear stress test, Echo, Pulmonary Function test, and they can't find a problem. They have even tested me for Rheumatoid, Lupus, Cancers, etc. It is good to know what I don't have wrong, but until then I have been going crazy!
My problem breathing seems to get worse when my headache is worse, even while resting. Almost as if, when the pressure is building up in my head it is putting pressure on the part of the brain that controls my breathing, makes sense, right? (like Central Sleep Apnea but when you are awake) I am convinced that it has something to do with PTC. Anyway, that's my recent theory, but I'm no doctor, I just know what my body is feeling and that it is REAL.
What I do know is that PTC a rare condition and that it manifests itself differently in each person. Also, these doctors are not GOD'S and they do not have all the answers. We need to be proactive in dealing with our condition and not rely too much on a "miracle cure." Alot can be said for prayer & meditation, diet & exercise, education & support.
www.pseudotumorcerebri.com is made for patients not doctors!

Hi There, I'm 23 and I've had dizziness for the past 7 months, I used to ride horses and had a few falls when I was younger. Not sure if this is the reason though. I wear glasses and feel better if I wear my contacts. Although I still have the problem, and have stopped alot of my driving don't feel to safe when I do. I have had a CT Scan, various bloods tests, my eyes checked again (as the optometrists though I may have just needed stronger glasses, which isn't the case) and been to 2 Chiropractors and 2 physios. I worry a far bit maybe its stress but I've told about four doctors about my problem but they think I'm just nuts.

Get your mother to a doctor, she could be having a TIA or mini stroke--she is at prime age.  The TIAs symptoms may subside, but if she gets attention now she could avoid a major stroke in the near future.  These are warning signals.

I hate to keep pushing my dx... but it all sounds so familiar.  I have pseudotumor cerebri or a.k.a. idiopathic intracranial hypertension.  I suffered for so long with these symptoms until a doctor did a spinal tap and found my pressure in my head was high.  I never hear about people having spinal taps with constant headaches... you should.  Not only does it check for your pressure, but they can test the fluid.

I have been having horrible headaches for over a year now.  Daily with no help from any OTC pain medication.  I remember having these in high school but never this bad.  I also have dizzy spells and my arm often goes numb.  Saturday the dizzness was so bad when I lifted my head off of my pillow I got very naseaus.  I've visited my regular dr who said it was stress and gave me muscle relaxers.  They did not help.  I've had my eyes checked and they have not changed.  I even got antiglare lenses to help but they have not subsided.  I'm currently on two anxiety medication but I dont think these are due to the anxiety at all and the medication does not help.  I thought it was due to my TMJ but I take Buspar to help with that with no luck either.  I recently have started going to a chiropractor who has said my spine is out of alignment and it looks as if I've suffered from whiplash at some point.  I have never been i na car wreck of any accident to cause whiplash.  She also told me that my muslces are so tight and continue to spasm that I am not keeping my adjustments so I'm goign to her for nothing and she wants me to go to a massage therapist.  I cant afford one.  If they massage therapist doesnt help my headaches she wants to do more test.  The headaches are getting worse and worse and interfering with work.  I'm worried something is really wrong and I dont know what to do.

Hi, I am a 19 year old male, and i'm experiencing the same symptoms. Headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, trouble breathing, a feeling like i'm not getting enough oxygen. I've had panic attacks recently and everyday since then, i have one, or almost get one, but i calm myself down. Read this, even if you haven't ever had a panic attack...
================================================================
((("Part 4 : Hyperventilation (overbreathing) and other panic attack symptoms

Now we're going to take a look at hyperventilating (or overbreathing), which causes, or makes many panic attacks worse. It can be counted amongst panic attack symptoms, or amongst causes, as one 'feeds' off the other.

About 60% of attacks are accompanied by hyperventilation and many panickers overbreathe even whilst relaxed.

The most important thing to understand about hyperventilation is that although it can feel as if you don't have enough oxygen, the opposite is true. It is a symptom of too much oxygen.

With hyperventilation, your body has too much oxygen. To use this oxygen (to extract it from your blood), your body needs a certain amount of Carbon Dioxide (CO2).

When you hyperventilate, you do not give your body long enough to retain CO2, and so your body cannot use the oxygen you have. This causes you to feel as if you are short of air, when actually you have too much. This is why the following techniques work to get rid of hyperventilation.

Some hyperventilation and panic attack symptoms are:
Light headiness
Giddiness
Dizziness
Shortness of breath
Heart palpitations
Numbness
Chest pains
Dry mouth
Clammy hands
Difficulty swallowing
Tremors
Sweating
Weakness
Fatigue
Getting Rid of Hyperventilation
Anybody who hyperventilates will find that symptoms of over-excitedness or panic will occur. So how can learn to breathe more evenly and naturally?

Hold your breath. Holding your breath for as long as you comfortably can will prevent the dissipation of carbon dioxide. If you hold your breath for a period of between 10 and 15 seconds and repeat this a few times that will be sufficient to calm hyperventilation quickly.
Breathe in and out of a paper bag. This will cause you to re-inhale the carbon dioxide that you exhaled. Naturally there are many times when this would be inappropriate and may appear a little strange. It really helps though.
Thirdly you can take vigorous exercise while breathing in and out through your nose. A brisk walk or jog whilst breathing through the nose will counter hyperventilation. Regular exercise will decrease general stress levels decreasing the chance of panic attacks.
If you find that your breathing pattern is irregular or uncomfortable a lot of the time, the best way to 'reset' it is by exercising. Start off gradually and check with your doctor if you are not used to exercise.
The 7:11 Breathing Pattern - the opposite of hyperventilation
Finally you can practice a special type of breathing, not into your chest but deep into your tummy or diaphragm which is below your chest. The important thing here is that the out breath must be longer that the in breath. This causes stimulation of the part of your nervous system responsible for relaxation. This is a basic law of biology and if you breathe in this way then your body will have no choice but to relax.

It may take a few minutes but the body will respond regardless of what your mind is thinking. Experience this now. Sit down and close your eyes for a little while. Just become aware of your breathing

I have several of these symptoms listed. Headache, dizziness, nausia, pressure, vision troubles, etc. I do not know what causes it. I have been tested up the wazoo, to no evail. They say everything from allergies to anxiety. Allery medicines do provide limited releif. I have found that suppliment drops of Oxygen Elements help quite a bit. I do not know where to get them since I get them from my Dad, but they are made by "Global Health Trax Inc." and they are called " Oxygen Elements Plus". Start out at twice a day and then move to three times or you may feel a little light headed at first. Too much oxygen all at once or something. Hope this helps.

To the 14 year old girl posted above...

I STRONGLY feel that your problem is in fact anxiety disorder- it is a chemical issue in your body that can be treated with an antianxiety medicine.  You will have to get in to see a psychiatrist/psychologist doctor as they are the only ones who will probably prescribe the medicine for you.   My daughter is also 14 and has been on Paxil for a couple years now.  She had the same exact problems and was having panic attacks 3x a day and even at school causing quite a problem.  She is now symptom free and getting all A's in school.  It does not change her behavior or anything else.  Its a tiny little pill and she is totally normal now.  I am so thankful to her doctor for prescribing it to her.  This started when she was 9!  We went to the emergency room 3x and many other doctor tests.  Its simply Anxiety/panic disorder.  It also is hereditary.  Do you worry a lot?  Does your parents or one of them seem to be a worrier too?  Lots of worry sets up the chemicals in your body for this to happen..  Anyhow, you will be better once you get on something like Paxil.  I would reccommend this medicine over the others but I hear the others are good too. Also, her doctor told her to NOT stop taking it and that it is called a 'maintenance drug' with no long term side affects or problems.  Email me at briank226@yahoo to talk more about it if you want, or to have your parents email me too.  You're not crazy.  But you might feel like you are!

My problems started about 3 1/2 years ago.  I am 23. It all started after I went to Knotts Berry Farm.  After a few rides I started to feel very naucsious and dizzy. I went to the place that amuzement parks have if you feel sick or get hurt and slept for about an hour.  I felt a little better after I woke up.  The next morning I woke up with the worst headache I had ever had in my life.  It was really bad for about 2 weeks.  I was also very dizzy.  Almost to the point where I felt like i was going to pass out.  That all lasted for about a month.  However, since then I always feel off balance and i virually always have a headache.  It goes up and down in siverity throughout the day.  I am almost always tired no matter how much sleep I get.  I find it very often hard to concentrate when I'm in class or just listening to someone.  Some times are worse than others.  It also effects my short term memory.  I'll be driving on the freeway and totally miss my exit.  Other stupid things like that happen quite often.

I've tried pretty much everything.  I've been to two chiropractors, 2 neurologists, all tpes of regular Dr's.  I had two MRI's.  X-Rays, CT Scan. All types of medications.  I went to two ENT's to see if it is an inner ear problem; all tests turned out fine. I went the Sansum Clinic and they couldn't figure it out.  I had a sleep study done to see if i have some sleep disorder.  Everything turned out fine there too.  I feel for everyone in this forum.  There has to be answeres out there somewhere.  We just need to keep looking.

I just wanted to say that there is a cheaper test to request than an MRI that is  helpful when diziness is involved....my daughter had it done it is called an ENG and within 20  minutes we knew the problem was within her brain and not her ears....they told us for years it was her ears....now we finally know what it is and got referred to a Neurologist...not trying to scare you...Godd luck in the future...sometimes it is a  long hard road trying to get doc's to listen...they think they know it all, and I'd like to tell a few of them they are idiot's and don't appreciate human  life!! But anyhooooo... this test is much cheaper than an MRI and most ENT docs do it. You may need a referral from your doc though!! Agin, Good Luck
