Mico Lumbar Dissectomy Complication

I had a micro lumbar dissectomy performed 10 days ago on L3, L4, and L5. I don't think it is infected, at least superficially, because there are no visibly ominous signs on or around the incision site. It is only slightly red, there is no foul-smelling odor, no pus, etc. However, the incision site lies above a prominent bump that has now become more apparent. I did notice the bump when I removed the dressing 4 days postop, but it seems like the bump has raised higher since then. Is this normal?

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with your doctor.

Without the ability to examine you and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of your symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.

Sometimes some mild redness around the incision site, with some raising around the incision (the bump you mention) occurs and is normal. I really can not know if the bump you have described is significant. As you mention, redness and discharge are concerning signs. Other concerning signs significant swelling around the incision and of course fever. I recommend contacting your surgeons office to ask your questions so that your concerns can be addressed and a significant fluid collection at the incision site can be investigated if necessary.

Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
