Problems after a knife laceration

I had a freak cooking injury Friday evening resulting in a 3 inch long by 3 cm deep cut.  Luckily it missed the tendons.  It did hit a vein.  I have 7 stitches.  Each day I am feeling more pain.  I often get the feeling that someone is putting an electrical current to my hand and thumb or else it feels like there is water running down my thumb.

Does this heal itself or is it something that needs to be looked at?

Thanks for the advice!  I will get to doctor's on Monday and have them check it out as they remove the stitches.

Trudie, it could be the nerves "waking up" after trauma, the shooting pain and shock feelings.   I had similar feelings in my leg after my spinal nerve surgery.  They eventually went away.

But just as equally possible, it could be something wrong.  I don't have much knowledge in this area.

You should let your doctors office know, and let them decide if you need to be seen about it.  Good luck--that was quite a laceration!

Hi I have same thing after stab wound to base of my hand last wednesday.

I refused hand surgery last friday as had feeling/ movement in my fingers.  The majority of the palm of my hand is still numb.  I kind of overcompensated and tried to use as normal  but have now stopped as seem to have pulled every muscle going causing shooting pains, all up my arm.  Since last night I also started gettin these shocks-which i think may be nerve damage as the doc specifically asked me if i had an electric shock feeling when i did it..  dont remember.  I will go back on fri and see what they say...
