Bad Shoulder

Bad Shoulder

I'm 29 yrs old and have very bad shoulder pain. I injured the shoulder twice when I was 17 and had it "put back in place" wore a sling for awhile and that was that. Over the last couple of years it began making cracking sounds when I lift my arm over my head or lift weights, and it feels like bones are grinding together and the top to outer part of the soulder become very sore. I work out, but have difficulty training shoulders, when I do I'm left with pain for days. I am now experiencing pain under my arm and into my elbow, along with numbness in my pinky finger and I am waking up with pretty nasty headaches if  I sleep on it wrong (arm above my head or on that side). Could all of this be as a result of those injury's? Why am I getting the numbness in my finger (that's what is making me nervous).

Hi,
Your symptom of pain while doing overhead movements suggests that either you might have biceps tendonitis, rotator cuff tendonitis, or rotator cuff calcific tendonitis.
These diagnoses also explains the numbness of pinky finger which could be due to nerve compression or nerve irritation at the level of elbow or at the level of shoulder.
I think you should be seeing an orthopaedician at earliest and get imaging study of your shoulder, elbow joint to assess the condition.
Meanwhile you can start taking OTC analgesics like Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen.
Keep me posted.
Bye.
