Is it possible to break a rib doing crunches?  I do have osteoporosis and take Actonel once per week along with calcium.  I have broken other ribs and have probably torn the cartilage between the ribs as well.  I can't lay down comfortably and twisting motions are not comfortable either.  The sharp pain is located near the bottom right rib and is sore to the touch. Filling the lung all the way causes some pain and sucking my stomach in is a "no-no". If I did manage to do this, what other exercises would be safe to strengthen the abdomen?
