Having trouble with Prednisone

by tom33000, Jan 07, 2009 10:41AM
Hello:  I have been on  Prednisone for about 10 yrs. For an Autoimune Disiese Which is in remission now. Prednisone is one of the most horrible meds. that I know of,but that is just my opinion. Its side effects are horrible and cause many bad problems. One being muscle atrophy, which is my problem now.  It slows the healing process and causes the muscles of the body to get very weak to the point of tearing and not healing. So far I have lost 9 muscles and the rest are so weak I have severe balance problems which lead to many falls and injuries. I am in the process of tapering off Pred. but it takes a long time. From what I read about the med. is that after I am off the stuff it will be about 1 year before I can expect my muscles to start to strenghten. The expected time for withdrawal is 5 months. So with the 5 months and one yr.without pred.= 17 months yet tearing muscles.  In the last 2 months I have torn 3 muscles.
I need more information about Prednisone and the healing process and my DR. just sounds like a polotician when I ask him. ( beats around the bush )     If anyone here has any ideas, please post them as I need help.  I would love to hear from a medical professional that is not afraid to say it like it is.       Thank you much        tom

Dear Tom,

I have located some information on this drug. Click the link below and it should answer alll your basic questions .. you should tell your dr. of the problem in a way the he will get the point. It might be time to switch to something else.  Remind him of his medical respondabilities to you as a paticane .. maybe it time to shop around for another  MD.
