Heating Pad Overexposure

Hi,

I have lower back pain from a herniated disc.

Ive been using a heating pad for many years to help with lower back muscle spams and  pain. Recently someone has told me that prolonged exposure/use of a dry heating pad can cause the liquid in the discs to dry up...?

Is this in any way remotely true?

Thanks

L.
