Muscle cramps after partial disectomy

Muscle cramps after partial disectomy

on 20th Feb I had a partial desectomy on L5/S1.  All was fine for 2 days after the operation, then when I went for a small walk, I found I was getting severe muscle cramps in the back of the calf and back of upper thigh of left leg (where I had the sciatica).  My GP said it could be that the muscles need to get back working after 6 months of dragging my leg before I could had the surgery.  After reading peoples comments on this site, I am worried that this is now going to be a lifelong symptom as the cramp pain is worse than the original sciatic pain.  I am due to see a Physiotherapist in 12th March and I am currently doing some stretching exercises (to no avail).    I would love some advice as to whether I need to see a Neurologist or am I doing too much too soon and should rest.
