Operative Report

Operative Report

In the below report, I understand that my knee was torn, and I had 'water on the knee'. What I am unclear about is the grade 2 and grade 3 changes and anything beyond that. I know grade 4 is the worst. Can anybody tell me what this means for me long term? Thank you kindly for any help you may be able to offer.

"Initial irrigant was positive for mild debris. Examination of the patellofemoral joint revealed grade 3 articular cartilage changes of the median ridge of patella and marked synovial proliferation with impingement in the patellofemoral joint.

Examination of medial gutter revealed hypermia and synovitis.

Examination of the medial compartment revealed marked synovial proliferation anterior to the joint with impingement. There was noted to be no significant articular cartilage pathology of the medial femoral condyle and grade 2 changes of the medial tibial plateau and a complex tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus.

Examination of the lateral compartment revealed marked synovial proliferation anterior to the joint with impingement. There was noted to be no significant articular cartilage pathology of the lateral femoral condyle. The lateral meniscus was intact both to vision and probing the posterior, middle and anterior one-thirds and there were grade 3 articular cartilage changes of the lateral tibial plateau."
