Steel Plate

Steel Plate

Back in October I broke my right leg (fibula and tibia) just above the ankle while riding a dirt bike. The Dr. installed one plate on each bone with 10 screws each.

On a recent follow up visit it was discovered that the plate on the fibula had broken into and now I am back in a cast.
My question is should I ask to have the plate replaced or continue on in the cast. Should the broken plate ever be removed?

Hello!

As you are in a cast, follow all instructions of the orthopedician to allow proper healing of your broken bones.

Once the healing is complete then you can always go for removal of the broken plate.

But if the broken plate is exposed; then you can have complications such as infection so get some scans done, get yourself examined and take the best opinion depending on your present status.

Take care!
