chronic Pain after Harrington Rod Removal over 20 years ago?

by mermaid540, Oct 28, 2009 07:47PM
Hi to all

I am a 37 year old female. I had the Harrington Road surgery from a Dr John Stephen at the POW some twenty years ago.  At 16 the rods where put in, at 17 half the rods came out as they came undone, then at 18 the rest came out as they came undone.

On the 1st August 09 I was invlolved in a car accident, I must say I have always suffered back pain, but since this accident the pain is chronic!!!!  Has anyone else suffered this?  I am actually seeing a surgeon in regards to this next Wednesday and am not sure what to say.  I seemed to get fobbed off and almost get the feeling they the doctors think it is in my head.  Just looking for some suggestions and has anyone ever gone back to their surgeons with back pain problems??? Thanks Jo

Hello!,

You have to evaluate the present problem. You had back issues but after the accident you might have further damaged your spine.

Go for an X-ray and if required MRI after consultation with the orthopedician on the scheduled appointment day.

As per now take some anti inflammatory drugs and also can use hot compress on your back after applying some analgesic spray or analgesic ointment.

Take care!
