crush finger

one month ago my hand was smashed by a car seat
the doctor x=rayed and that my third middle finger was
fractured.  he put my finger in a splint. he said in two weeks
it would be back to normal. my finger was bruised top and
bottom. with one long red streak down it and it is still there
i am still not able to use my finger and i have pains shooting
up my arm. on friday i was told that my finger was not fractured but
my finger is still swollen in the middle, it looks as though my finger is
crook, but the doctor (othro) said i had a crush injury and that i will have to have therapy
what is crush injury?  and how long does it take to heal, does this require surgery?

A laceration or crush injury may only go through skin, or it may cut through blood vessels, nerves, and tendons that lie just under the skin.

For associated fractures reduction realignment  of broken or dislocated bones is done.After the bone is put back into place, the doctor may perform more x-rays to make sure the bones are realigned, then a splint is applied. You should refer a hand specialist and undergo exercises which may help in rapid healing.
