foot surgery
i had foot surgery and was told they removed a muscle mass.  can you tell me what that is??

This might be a tumor which got removed, you need to tell us the location and type of surgery performed and the diagnosis to explain you the details.

Surgical removal of giant cell tumors or intramuscular arteriovenous hemangioma: These masses are generally found on the toes, top of the foot or sides of the foot. They are always closely associated with a tendon sheath. They can also occur deep inside the foot.
