Jan214 how do I fill out a profile

I really hate to sound foolish but I have no idea how to fill out the profile. I looked at the forum page and didn't see anything to click on to be able to do so. If you can give me some guidance, i'd be glad to do so. Thanks, Jane

Hi Jane,

If you scroll up to the top of the page, you will see a section that is shaded in blue. To the far right  hand side you will see a tag "My MeHelp".

Click on that and your profile page will open. If you haven't filled anything in and would like to, you simply click on the "Edit Profile" button. A new screen will open and you can fill in some details about yourself.

There's lots of other features you can use, such as sending notes or private emails, or keeping a journal if you chose to.

I hope this helps....Cheers...Janet

Hi Jane, I'm not Jan but I may be able to answer your question.

If you look at the top you'll see a My MedHelp.  Click on that and it'll take you to your profile page.  From there you can edit your "mood", which will show up at the sidebar, put something in the About Me, post pictures, write journals, see friends and notes.

Within some of those settings you'll see a "Privacy" setting which will allow you to set it to 'me only', 'friends only' or 'everyone'.  On your profile page, if you look to the upper right, you'll see a 'Settings' link.  From there you can set your entire page up with preferences on privacy, block people, how you want MedHelp to send notifications, etc.

Good luck and if you have trouble, just ask.

Thanks for your help ladies, I'll check that out asap. Right now I'm just trying to get some info regarding treatments for my ovca which has now spread to my liver. Treatments, chemo's what has worked, very scary.
I might as well also ask, I have a general oncologist, in a group of 5, he's not a a GYN oncologist. He's been treating me for 1 1/2 years and I'm happy with him and his staff. I still wonder if I should be at a major facility, or if my care is just as good. I once asked him what the difference would be between him and a major cancer center, he said the only difference may be the order of the chemo drugs. What do you think? Jane

Hello,
I would not hesitate to consult a gynecological oncologist affiliated with an accredited institution.

The only time I saw my Gynae-Oncologist was prior to surgery and after surgery. I did however see him for several weeks after surgery but that was only because I ended up staying in hospital for 6+ weeks due to complications.

Since then, I see my Oncologist every 3 weeks. I don't really think it matters where an Oncologist works from. I think morely importantly is the level of care and treatment he/she is able to provide. That he/she keeps up with current trends and is aware of all new developments and clinical trials available and passes on that knowledge to their patients.

When I was first dx, I was told I have Recurrent OvCa and that it was in my liver and kidneys. They removed as much as they could at the time of surgery but there was still "residue disease" remaining and possible further surgery might be required.

I had 3 rounds of Carbo/Taxol but was taken off it because it wasn't working for me. My CA125 count tripled on that combo and the "spots" to my liver and kidneys had also mulitplied. It was decided I was Platinum Resistant and it was then suggested I go on a clinical trial, phase 3 for Patupilone.

I have been on Patupilone for just on a year now, no break, every 3 weeks. Up until just recently my Ca125 has steadily gone down but not into the "normal" range and the "spots" on my liver and kidneys had cleared by 50%.

I know how worrying it is when you're told that the cancer has spread but there are options out there that can and do help. I sincerly hope your Oncologist comes up with the right combo for you.

All the very best to you...Janet

Jane,
The only time I ever saw my gyn/onc was for my surgery. I have been treated by a medical onc for 3 years now. After my first recurrence, I called one of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America and just talked to a nurse on the staff. I explained to her what was going on and how I was being treated for it. When she told me that it sounded like my Dr was on top of things, that was good enough for me.
If you are comfortable with your one and trust his decisions, then you should be ok. But you can always call someplace and speak to someone and see what they have to say.
The profile part is very easy and does not take long at all.

Hi ladies, thanks for the info re filling out my profile, I just completed that. In addition, thanks for the info and advice about the questionable spot on my liver. My Oncologist read the detailed report from the radiologist and feels that at this point we should continue Topotecan, repeat the CA125 monthly, and repeat the scan in 6-8 weeks. He doesn't feel that the info in the report, indicates a spread, but we'll closely follow it. Jane
