Sorry... I did not mean to write, "Servical Cancer" but Cervical Cancer. And, I am glad that this was not the diagnosis if, in fact, cervical cells were the ones that were abnormal.
Mary
I am wondering if you mean that your niece had CIN 3, what is now more commonly called Severe Cervical Dysplasia in some parts of the country, although some places still call it CIN 3, which is why I am thinking that this may be what she had. CIN1, CIN2, CIN3, And, the next stage would be Cervical Cancer translates now into Mild, Moderate, Severe and then Servical cancer as far as the stages of dysplasia (or abnormal cells). The abnormal cells would show up on a Pap Smear result and then typically would be followed up with a Coposcopy. Surgery such as LEEP procedure where they literally slice off the abnormal cells leaving the margins clean, would be the next step if the results of the Colposcopy indicate serious dysplasia, or certainly, cancer.
So, it sounds like things went well for her and the fact that she was able to get pregnant is great since sometimes the quality of the cervical mucus can change after such a surgery. My understanding is that sometimes the surgery is even more aggressive if a woman has decided that her family planning days are past.
As far as the cysts on the ovary, there should not be a connection between them and the abnormal cells (if I am correct in my guess on all this and in fact you did mean cervical abnormal cells), and as Star said, cysts are very common, but it is hard to say more since the information is rather vague. I am sure, too, that if her doctor is not concerned, then I do hope the Mom-to-be is able to relax about all this. Stress can cause havoc on our systems, too....so, I hope she is in good hands.
Take care,
Mary
No one can say but the Dr is she will be okay or not. They could very well be just regular cysts that will go away on their own. What do you mean by abnormal stage 3? Did she have OVCA? Did she have chemo? Can you tell me a little ? Good luck to your neice. I know this can be very frightening especially with a pregnancy being involved.
The abnormal cells were where? stage 3? What was removed? abnormal cells of what type? Evidently she still has both ovaries, Cysts are very comman , what size are the cysts? she should be followed by an Onocologist to define just what the cysts are composed of. You do not give us a clear idea of her condition so that we can answer any of your questions.
