22 and scared

Hi my name is Candice and I am 22.  My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer when she was 24.  When I was 18 I was diagnosed with HPV and have since had surgery to keep it under control.  within the last year I have been experienceing a lot of pelvic pain.  I went to get a ck up and my doc told me I had a cyst on my ovary but that it would probably resolve on its own.  The problem is that the pain is still continuos but the cyst comes and goes.  I went back to the doc but she made me feel stupid and told me I should just deal with the pain it happens to some people.  I am wondering if I should get another opinon becuse the pain is not mild.  When it starts to hurt I cant even move, I cant walk or sit up it is a horrible feeling.  Could this be a sign of ovarian cancer?

Hi there
I agree with all the good responses here. You need a careful exam, and counseling about what to do with your family history
best wishes

A dr. should not make you feel stupid not matter what.  You definetly need a second opinion.

Candice,

I find your doctor's response to your intense pain uncaring and unprofessional.  Given your symptoms AND the family history, you have very valid reasons to be concerned.    If I was in your shoes, not only would I get a second opinion, but I would not entrust my medical care to your current doctor.

Good luck.

Candice,
I am not a Dr. but If I were you I would definitly get a second opinion. There is NO reason you should be in pain. I am sure it is not ovarian cancer or your current physician would already know that but there has to be something else going on if you are in that much pain. I have gotten the cysts that go away and rupture on their own and mine are not that painful. Please get a second opinion!
