Our daughter went in with symptoms of appendicitus, however, an ultrasound showed fluid in the abdominal cavity that they think is from a ruptured ovarian cyst. No fever, Consisten pain the lower right abdominal are above the hip, below the rib cage. Pain increases temporarily for a few minutes when urinating & passing stools. She was released from the hospital. White blood count was normal, UTI dip stick was negative. Vitals normal. I am following with her pediatrician tomorrow. No absolute diagnoses has been made.
This must be very scary for you as her mom. I bet you almost wish it was her appendix. I'll be watching for your update after visit with her doctor. Sounds like it's time to see an ob/gyn who has more experience with this kind of problem. If it were me, I would ask for an imediate referral and get her in imediately only because her pain must be very hard for her to tolerate. We're here for you.
sorry to hear that your daughter has had such a bad time . At 12 im sure that hormone activity is all over the place and hope this is the cause that will soon settle down. Good luck tomorrow and let us know what happens .
it is not unusual for a pre teen to have ruptured cysts, because their hormones are still getting in balance. Sometimes the egg follicles form deeper and maybe under a previous corpus luteum "scar" causing the rupture to be more painful and more bleeding, any time any fluid goes into the abdominal cavity there is also pain. Her body is still adjusting to the maturing process and it does take time for all the parts to syncronize their functions. Good Luck , please be open with her and explain what her body is going through, it is very scary to a young girl. Marty
Hi, I'm sorry your daughter is having such an experience, and pray for your family.
I have an ovarian cyst that was leaking a few weeks ago, and sympathize with the pain.
To be 12 and have that pain is heartbreaking to a parent, I am certain. I also have the pain radiating above my right hip and below my rib cage. Actually, I also have lumbar pain around my back. I am having surgery to remove the mass, which has been classified as a complex dermoid cyst.
I will keep your daughter, and your family, in my prayers.
I hope that she will grow in strength and knowledge about her body, and will listen to what it is telling her.
My 13 yr old daughter went to the ER on 11/3/08 for lower R abdominal pain, nausea and vomitting. The blood work showed her white blood cells were double what they should be. A CT scan revealed fluid from a ruptured cyct and the tip of the appendix was inflamed they kept her for a 12 hr.observation w/ iv antibiotics she had no pain and the 2nd blood panel was was normal and sent her home w/ the diagnosis of ruptured cysts. (I too suffer from them) Today, 12 hrs. after being released, she has began to have the same pain although not nearly as bad it is present. I don't know what to do. Her bowels are moving and has no problems urinating.
Thank you for your empathy. Continued follow up with our Daughter's pediatrician with another x-ray revealed stools in the instestine. She was treated with a special solution to cleanse her instestines. We then changed her diet. She loves rice and bananas, both cause constipation. We have since completely removed bananas and only eat rice about once a month. We eat more potatoes, whole wheat pasta and easy to digest egg noodles for the starch side dishes a long with lots of water. No probelms since. Who knows where the fluid in the abdomin (abdomen) came from?
